Default shifting from low to high

someone gave me a 1990 yamaha big bear. He bought it new and only used it around the yard pulling a small trailor. It has sat up in a barn for several years. It is in good condition for its age. I have not had much time to mess with it but i did put some fresh gas in it and it started. I only ran it a few minutes and it ran fine. I still need to change all the fluids. The problem that i found was that it would not move when in high range. Works fine in low range. Any suggestions

Try holding down the foot brake. If I remember right.

Are you sure its actually in high gear, does a light lite up. My thought is linkage or maybe sit on it and rock it with your foot off the brake. Other wise I don't know.

Make sure the wire to the foot brake lever is still connected.

The only light is red for reverse and green for neutral on my 1989 350 Big Bear 4x4.
