Boogered Pilot Screw....

Default Boogered Pilot Screw....

How to get this pilot screw out??

No Idea how to get the screw out to replace with new one. Screw driver just slips. Quite frustrating. The screw is recessed about 1/2", so no way to try and re-make the groove with a file.

I have tried to push down as hard as I dare with out breaking the carb body, still just slips.

Ideas?

go buy a set of left handed drill bits. then buy a set of ease outs or a dutchman set. that'll get it. THEN, obviously, you'll need a new screw.

Ruined two screw extractors. No Go....the pilor screw is REALLY seized in there. Replacement carb is the only option left.

Are there other Year Models that can be retro fitted?

No replacement carbs for a 1999 year on Ebay. Parts House all around want $400 for the carb.

What kind of bike are you working on? I see its a 99 but not exactly what kind of 99 Yamaha....

soak it in diesel or buy a can of aerokroil and soak it with that. it'll come out. BUT, left handed drill bits will work.

Sorry, should have mentioned, its a 1999 Wolverine 350 4x4.


I bought a screw out kit. Drilled a hole in the screw, soaked in liquid wrench several hours yesterday, then attempted to screw out. Failed, the boss that the screw sits in broke. The carb is now a paper weight.

Shopping for a a new/used carb I go....

That carb is a 36mm Mukini carb. I'm not sure exactly which one as far as round or flat side, but check this site for possibilities on a new one for better money... Prices seem a lot better than $400.00

Maybe you could call them and talk with them about it to make sure you get the right one.
