I found this information at another web site (I can't say the name or the moderators will delete the message)...

These were all tested with radar equipment.

That's right, Chris. The internet article did not post the times on the MX track or the 1 mile woods trail (I think they are posted in the printed magazine), but the article did say the 400ex had the fastest times. They said the 'usable' power of the 400ex and its handling finesse is what gave it the fastest times - and this was consistent with 4 different riders.

The 400ex only won by .06 and .09 of a second. Thats not a big deal. I have a Raptor and a 400ex. Yamaha should have made the rear axle the same width as the front then I guarantee the lap times would be Raptor winnng. I know Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. I still prefer the Raptor, anyone wanna buy a 400ex?

Jason454,
I'm not sure if you are reading the chart correctly. The .06 and .09 are NOT hundreths of a second (1/100th) as you suggest. They are SECONDS and that's a HUGE deal! Try standing at the finish line sometime and watch the winner come by and then count 6 to 9 FULL seconds for the second place guy to come by. It will seem like an eternity.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not trying to glorify the 400EX (especially on the Yamaha forum), rather simply correcting an incorrect statement. Like you, I've owned both the Raptor and 400EX and there's no doubt the Raptor has much more power. It's all about how you use it.
