Default 1998 Big Bear 350 4x4 Neutral light

I just purchased a 1998 Big Bear 350 4x4 and I have a few questions.

1. The Neutral light does not come on, however with the machine in neutral I can hold the left brake and it it will start. Is this normal operation? Is holding the left brake lever required for normal starting?

2. With the engine running, the neutral light still does not work. The reverse light works with and without the engine running. Does this just sound like a bulb being out? Do these even GO out? - I'm having the dickens of a time finding a bulb specifically for this model.

3. I've noticed that shifting up out of reverse is very difficult. So much, in fact, that I must reach down and pull it up with my hand. Am I correct in assuming that this just means that my idle is set too high?

4. Might anyone know where I could find pdf user and service manuals for this specific model?

Thanks a lot for your input.

That is odd that you need the green light to start up without holding the brake in while in neutral.

Maybe the neutral Bulb is part of the safety bypass circuit on start up switch. The ATV now treats even neutral like its in gear.

From your comment, it sounds like I'll just need to investigate this safety bypass circuit and that is isn't a bulb issue.

Thanks a lot for the great info!

Also, as I do not have nor have I yet to find a manual, can someone please tell me what motor oil to use and how much to use in this machine? I'm in Alabama, if that matters.

Well, I have confirmed that the light DOES work. With the machine in neutral, I can VERY VERY slowly push the shift lever down and at some point "cross" the section that engages the neutral "safety bypass circuit". This illuminates the neutral light and the atv will then crank without use of the rear hand brake.

Now that the issue has been identified, I just have to figure out how to FIX it.
