In the deep hairy muddy trails the blaster might have a dis-advantage, being a 2wd she dont go that good in the mud and the rear axle is kind of low (but its the same way on most sport quads) Besides that it should have no problem keeping up. I have never ridden a 300/400ex (I know its sad) but I have ridden a wolverine, the blaster would smoke it on the good trails/flats, the wolverine would smoke the blaster in the crappy/muddy trails. I would think the blaster and 300ex are a pretty even match? Anyways just my opinion.. For the longest time I did not want to get a blaster in fears that it would last me mabe a week or two being a small motor and old design, BUT these little suckers are TOUGH, I have yet to break anything.

I had a Blaster which I bought for my wife. Honestly, for the money it is a decent quad but it has a lot of shortcomings. I would recommend a 300EX over a Blaster. They 300EX is good & reliable (Blaster too) but has reverse & electric start and the suspension HAS to be better than the Blaster.

A blaster should have no trouble keeping up with 300exs and wolverines. The blaster and the 300 ex are about even when it comes to speed, but the blaster should win. Like that other dude said, the blaster does not have as gooda suspension as the 300, nor does it have electric start or reverse, but its still a great quad and lots of fun for the price.

The 300 EX for sure it has electric start and reverse a great 4 stroke motor. A blaster is a good machine too but the EX is better all the way around, better suspension, more power, better handling. Of course it is a bit more expensive than the Blaster. .

I have a blaster and my friend has a 400ex. I drag raced him once and he beat me by about 15 feet.

1995 yamaha blaster, paul turner pipe and silencer, K&N filter, 14 tooth front sprocket, oil injection block off, rear holeshots, graydon full chasis and swing arm skid plate.

If his friends all have sport quads then why would he want a Wolverine? As long as he is a good rider then it will not matter what sport quad he buys since he will easily be able to keep up. The Blaster is a good, quick quad but the brakes suck. The 300ex is a nice quad, pretty deluxe but it is expensive. The Mojave is the best buy since it has reverse, equal performance to the Honda and a low price (although more than the Blaster). I have ridden or owned all the quads you spoke of and I own a '01 Mojave. Basically your son just needs to figure out if he wants a 4x4 or a sport quad, then it is as easy as picking your favorite color.
