Default Thoughts on 2006-2008 yamaha wolverine

Hi,
What do you guys think about the yamaha wolverine 450's
Are they good machines?
Are they powerful?
How is the acceleration?
How is the 4x4 system? Diff lock?

Please share your knowledge. Thanks!

Did you ever make a decision? All name brand machines nowadays are pretty good. You need to make sure the machine has been maintained and hasn't had the crap run out of it when buying used.
I've always liked Yamaha, they make a good bike.

The 450 Wolverine is the SRA 350 Grizzly/Bruin chassis so it also has no diff lock or low range but it has the 450 Grizzly motor.
Since both the 350 chassis and 450 Grizzly motor are both known to be reliable the Wolverine has to be good as well. 2006 Yamaha Wolverine 450 4X4 ATVs The only thing the wolverine chassis improved on over the 350 Utility chassis is a rear disk brake and a little more travel on the front suspension.

Why not get the 450 Grizzly with diff lock and IRS or 350 Grizzly IRS which unlike the SRA 350 gets the diff lock and rear disk for some reason.

Just take the racks off and put on smaller 23" tires and off you go.
You basically have a IRS with diff lock 350 or 450 Wolverine.

I owned one myself. The Wolverine is quite a bit smaller than the 450 Kodiak so its not quite the same as buying a 450 Kodiak and taking the racks off and putting on smaller tires. I liked that it didn't have irs because it cut down on the weight and made it feel fairly sporty. Its got a torquey engine. It has good low and midrange power and tops out at about 50 mph stock. So its no speed demon but very agile and manuverable, great trail quad and good for hill climbing. No diff-lock, just a button to engage limited slip 4x4 on the fly. I wish Yamaha would introduce a new Wolverine model with perhaps the 550 engine or even the Grizzly 700 engine. That's really the only complaint I had about, I just wished it had a bit more power.
