Here's my 2 cents about drag racing. People always use that to determine what ATV is faster. But alot of times it can have some strange outcomes. I mean if I didn't know better I would think that a Warrior is faster than a 400EX because I sat and watched a stock Warrior drag race a stock EX on gravel and if they raced 10 times the Warrior won 9 of those times. I know that an EX is faster, but whether or not it was the terrain, the rider, who knows? I also saw that same 400EX beat a banshee in a drag at the same spot. But later they raced on pavement and it was not even close, the banshee easily won. Drag racing still has alot to do with the traction and the rider. Just like when you hear someone say that their scrambler beat a banshee. You KNOW thats because their was low traction, the banshee spins forever in that case, why do u think they never say they beat a Raptor?? Its about the same speed as a Banshee, so they should be able to take that too.. Its because the Raptor has those damn tires that grip in 6 inches of snow. Thats why I dont usually believe the speeds of machines until I see it for myself. Anyway I dont know why I decided to post this, guess I was just bored.

Although this has nothing to do w/ atv's when I dragged my GSXR1100, ZX11, FJ1100 at Bonneville raceway I was launching the GSXR at 2700rpm the ZX11 at 9000rpm and the FJ at 8,000rpm. It's all about weight, traction, power to weight ratio, and most of all, the rider!!!! You have to know the vehicle and use it right to make it work. Go launch a GSXR1100 at 9000rpm and then go collect your insurance money.

It's not always a question of traction either. I beat my buddy's Banshee until he hits his power peak...which is top end. So many people find so many excuses for why they don't or didn't win a dragrace. We race for fun between friends, so if we are always bickering and finding excuses it gets to be no fun after a while...

660R01. You're correct. That's why I like racing in the sand. It doesn't have too much to do with skill. Rev it to about 9000, dump the clutch and shift. Personally, I have a tough time racing where there is good traction because I get all excited and can't slip the clutch well to keep from looping it and always end up letting off and getting a bad start.

Oh, while we're on the subject it REALLY bugs me when somebody says something to the effect "I race my buddy with a Banshee and I beat him until about 4th gear when he hits his powerband" Argh... What a bunch of crap. Powerband has nothing to do with gear or speed people, it is the RPM of the ENGINE and when you're racing except for the launch in first gear you're always at a high RPM and in the power band.

Wyo, I said power peak.(maybe my english isn't so good/precise anymore?!) In other words he has more top speed plus better acceleration in and above 4th gear than I at a certain speed... and once he hits fouth gear he slowly leaves me behind. Look at the facts. I always beat his Shee up to third gear because I get more power to the ground (maybe traction) and also better acceleration at first. After that his top speed and better acceleration become a factor. Nothing wrong with that?!?!

Banshee guys are so defensive...sheesh!

Xplor, Actually I wasn't really referring to your post. Your post did make me think of this subject but I didn't mean to sound like I was referring to you directly. Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. I actually meant to offend different pepople.

Geesh, you Polaris guys are so defensive. (Kidding, kidding)

A raptor does a little over 15 seconds in the 1/4 mile, compare that with your average V6 Camaro as you said that does in the upper 15's. So it will beat most 6 cylinder cars. After you modify the Raptor, then you can beat some faster cars maybe. It will be really tough to get a Raptor to where it will beat the newer V8 Mustangs and camaro's. Older ones yes, new ones, no.

I took my raptor to an 1/8 mile track stock with a GYT-R carbon Fiber pipe I ran a 10.23@63.560 mph. I think it will hit 9's the way it is but nothing more the way it sits, and I'm gettting into 4th gear as I go through the lights You have got to be bounching off the rev limiter trying to go through the 1/4 mile.
