Project Help
#1
Hello all. I recently got a 87 Moto 4 350 as a project and to learn on. At one point he did have it running but its sat for a yr or 2 now. I replaced the carb and threw a new battery on it (along with a few other small parts) My problem is i have no power at all. The new battery is charged and i get nothing when i turn the key (The fuse is good and so it the ground) I then tried to use the pull start and its very difficult to pull and doesn't want to retract either. What should i do?
Thanks for helping the noob. I fix planes for a living so being stumped by a atv is kinda embarrassing. haha

If you have no power at all, the battery voltage is not getting through. Check if power is getting to the ignition switch. I find a 12v test lamp is better than a multimeter for these checks as it tests power rather than just voltage. If you are getting power to the switch, are you getting power from it to the light switch and starter button? Yamaha earth points on engine and frame are not always great either.
I find Yam 350 pull starts are often as you describe, you don't notice this until you need them.

those switches are junk. i have changed mine once and its acting up again. also, i found that on my timberwolf, the battery moves around a little bit in the box. it caused my neg cable to come undone. i found a piece of wood and wedged it in there and now the loose cable problem went away.
and those freakin pll start assemblies are expensive. mine was bad and i was quoted and confirmed the price VIA ebay of like 175 bucks. it took me 6 months, but i found a perfectly good used one on ebay for 30 bucks or so. the gear that meshed with the starter clutch looked a bit different, but it works like a champ.
its nice to have that pull start option. i need to get that kit for my honda rancher and install a pull start on that thing. dead batt = ur stuck like chuck with the honda.
