Anyone Going to Southwick, Mass. to race this sunday

You guys are lucky to live cose enough to race at Southwick. I would love the chance to race at Southwick but it would be a far drive from Ohio. For me racing on the national mx tracks is incredible since I follow the Chevy Trucks Outdoor Bike Nationals. When you ride on the same tracks that you watch Carmichael and Larocco racing on TV it makes it more fun and most of the National tracks have been around a long time and have a lot of history. Southwick looks awesome on TV with all the whoops that develop in the deep sand. I love racing sandy tracks but you need to be in good shape to take the pounding and keep a fast pace. I have raced the GNC ATV National at Redbud a few times and will be going to Redbud and High Point this year. Let us know how it goes at Southwick and how much of a quad turn out they have. I guess they used to race one of the GNC ATV Nationals there years ago.

I will be there. I have raced the NEATVA-MX series the last two years. I have to move up to the Open A class this year. I finished 3rd in the Open B class last year and have to move up. I ride a 89 250R.
Bingo1, Southwick is located just west of Springfield MA. Right were Interstate 91 hits CT. So I am sure it would take less time than it would to Boston. I used to attend UVM and live 15 minutes south of Southwick. Travel time to UVM was around 3.5 hours. We also race another track in NH. Called Jolly Roger located in Lempster NH which is a 2 hour drive north from Southwick. This track is all jumps, at last count there was 21 jumps in one lap. The owner changes the track all the time.
Yeah, you could say we are lucky for living so close to Southwick. It is a very hard track. Not for jumps but from the whoops. Good thing is that only quads run on our race days. So the whoops are made from us not the bikes. Funny to see the track so smooth first thing in the morning, then turn so bumpy during the day. When I first started racing the track, I was curious to see how the national bikes did on the same track. Needless to say, I was HIGHLY disappointed in the bikes, or very impressed in the quad abilities. Reason: the top quad racers in our series do all the same jumps the bikes do.
For numbers at a race, there are usually about 150 quads that show up. From what I hear, the NEAVTA-MX series has the largest turn out of riders in the country. Last year, we fought hard for a national quad race, even fast track promotions was all for it. But the AMA decided to replace the TT race with another TT race. But I would place money on a national coming soon to Southwick.

Lasher: Thanks for the info, I have a cottage in VT, used to party in Burlington...probably at one time or another with you!! I will talk to some pals and convince them, figure it will be about 5 hours, leave at 5:00 AM on sight at 10:00 or so. Is it easy to find once at the intersection of 91?
Later dude

Bingo1 – I kinda doubt that we partied together. I was only there for a year because I got an ‘A’ in partying and crappy grades in the classroom. Plus I was under age, so all those great bars where out. Frat parties were pretty good, but I could get a beer in my room a lot easier than at the party. Plus playing hockey, we were not allowed to join a frat house. But it is defiantly one of the best college towns I have ever been to.
Everyone - The NEATVA-MX does not have a working web site at this time. From what I have heard it is in the process but…I looked at the moto338 web site and read the directions they gave. I have absolutely no clue where or what they are talking about.
If you are coming from the North follow these directions: (If you are coming from anywhere else, let me know.)
Take Interstate 91 South until you hit the Mass Pike (interstate 90) West. MapQuest shows exit 14 near it, but just after the Holyoke Mall (Ingleside Mall?) is the exit. The exit is pretty easy to find, but just to let you know the Mass Pike is a toll highway.
Follow the Mass Pike (interstate 90) West for approx. 10 miles until you reach the exit for Route 10 and 202. Mapquest shows the exit number to be 3. Once off the Mass Pike (and paid the toll) you will want to head South on Route 10 and 202.
Follow Route 10 and 202 South through Westfield until you hit Southwick. I believe Southwick will be approx. 15 minutes off the highway.
Once you reach Southwick, look for Route 57 East on the left hand side. If memory serves me correct, there should be a traffic light and a mobile station at the intersection. Take a Left onto Route 57 East.
Follow this approx. 1 mile. On the right will be a road called Powder Mill Road. Take a right onto this street. Powder Mill Road is right before the two schools on the right hand side. So if you are on Route 57 East, and pass two schools next to each other, then you have gone too far.
Continue down Powder Mill Road for approx 1 mile. On the left just after some houses and before a ball field, you will see signs for the American Legion Post 338 and a sign for the motocross track. Take a left into here and drive towards the woods. At the wood line is the track.
I will be #19 in the Open A class in a black plastic/blue framed 250R. If I do poorly, then that is not me, but my twin brother. I drive a red Dodge Intrepid with a 5x14 trailer. I should be parked next to a white Ford pulling a white enclosed trailer. If you guys make it down stop on over and say hi.
Oh, there will be a tech inspection this year. Here is what he will be looking for:
Working kill switch.
Working brakes.
Nothing leaking, now a little bit here and there may pass, but if your carb is flowing gas out of the overflow tubes then it probably will not.
You will need Nerf bars, helmet, goggles and boots. Pretty much it more of a safety inspection, not a tech inspection. So don’t have sharp objects sticking out of the quad. Remove the lights or cover them up. Etc. Common Sense stuff.
If you have any specific questions about the tech inspection, let me know. I will try to get a hold of the guy to get you the answer before the race.
Hope to see you there.
