Default Carburetor question....

I need a new carb for my 2000 Yamaha 400 Kodiak. New from the dealer theyre over $700. NO! I looked online and found them ranging from $40 to $400. Whats the difference? I dont want cheap but Im not looking to drop 4 bills either. Any suggestions?

Most of the really low dollar carbs are Chinese knock offs. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. What you want if you can get a good deal is an OEM carb. Email the "online sources" and ask them specifically if they're OEM. Can't yours be rebuilt?

It looks like it has some sort of glue of putty on the top already. Figured I'd just buy a new one. OEMs are freakin' expensive.

I'd look on ebay for a used one and a new carb kit.

How bout a picture. The top of the carb can be replaced...if your referring to the diaphragm cover.

I'd be inclined to take apart and soak the metal parts in carb cleaner. If the diaphragm is shot, replace it. Get a "rebuild kit" for it. Waay better to fix the genuine item, than gamble on a Chinese knock off.
