O.K my Kodiak is running bad.
I have owned a honda and a kawasaki before and never had this problem.
Since then I have owned a big bear and a kodiak.
Both machines had the same problem. I just traded my bear, thinking the kodiak would not have the same problem. But it turns out that it must be a bad design or flaw with yamaha.
The kodiak will not idle smooth. The Rpm's are erratic. I asked the dealer and he told me that the machine was in the breaking in period and this was O.K and normal. I have had my kodiak for about 150 mile and it's still the same thing.
Both my kaw and honda was not like this.
Is there a problem with kodiak's or yamaha's????
Is there someone out there with the same problem.
I was also told that the Air Screw mixture was not set right. Should this have been set at the dealer or factory??
If you do have to adjust this screw, how in the world do you get at the screw under the carb when the engine is hot????
I have to vent a little...
I paid $6300.00 for this machine and it run's like S*it.
Can someone please help me.
Thanks.

I had an idle problem myself with my Kodiac. It wouldn't idle at all in the cold weather when first started. Found out that the clips for the air filter cover weren't fastened. This let the frost hit the carb which made for losey idle. Since then she purrs like a kitten. Every one else I know with Kodiaks have no idle problems what so ever. Your dealer is full of sh** when he tells you its normal. Take the bike back and don't take no for an answer. Something is definately set up wrong, make the dealer deal with it. Maybe see a different Yammy dealer if there are any others close by. Lucky the dealer here goes out of his way to keep his customers happy. One of the reasons he sells so many bikes.

I've never had an idle prob w/a Kodiak or any other Yamaha. They always start w/the touch of the button and idle smooth. It's definitely not normal and would demand the dealer fix it.

I took the kodiak in and they adjusted the idle mixture screw.
It seemed to run better.
I took it home and after I ran it a while, it started to idle a little rough.
Not as bad as before.
The dealer told me that it was a little rich.
I don't think so....
I saw him turning the screw out which I think is making the carb richer.
My wife's 2000 kodiak runs great, and it is brand spankin' new.
I still think that a person should not have to go thru this with a new machine.
Does anyone know how many turns from the close postion the air mixture screw needs to be????
Thanks for the info.

My 2001 Kodiak did the same thing after I got done setting it up and servicing it, Brand new out of crate it had some old fuel residue in carb ,they are runn at factory, pilot jet was partially plugged. I cleaned out carb ran like a champ. Also turning out idle mix screw to 3 turns out makes it run and Idle much nicer. Been working as a yamaha mech for 16 years I have seen it many times on new units .. Greg
