I have a problem with my quad, it is ticking and smoking bad, and my cam chain is loose with the adjuster for the tension all the way out. When I am riding, its fine, no ticking, no smoke, just when at idle. Can someone help me?

Sounds like you need to do a rebuild. Check your values and seats along with new chain.

It could just be an oil problem

Well, I know it is not a rebuild because I just did one 3 months ago. Could the chain maybe have stretched? And by oil problem, what does that mean? not enough or too much or a leak somehwere? I am not quite sure.

If it is smoking, what color smoke??? what does it smell like??

If the cam chain is loose and the tensioner is all the way out you most likely have an incorrect cam chain on it....thus the ticking can be coming from the cam chain hitting the case surrounding it or jumping teeth...I would do a tear down and put a new cam chain on it before you do serious damage to the engine itself...

The color smoke is a darker gray color. I know it is not the cam chain being the wrong one because it is the stock one. Could it have stretched out? I rode it for about 15 hours after I rebuilt it and then it started to smoke, click, etc. when I noticed the chain being loose after checking it out. The smoke does smell like oil though. Could the seals have blown out already? I just had them replaced a couple of months ago. If they are, should it be a warranty type situation with the shop? They ported and polished the head along with a rebuild and I reassembled. I know what I am doing as far as the engine work goes, but this is just stumping me. Thanks for any more help you guys can give me.

OK, screw this, I am gonna fix this quad and sell it, anyone wanna buy it? I am gonna go buy a 400ex. That would be my best choice for MX racing a 4-stroke anyways. Lemme know if anyone wants to buy it, I will take some pics.
