Default 400 kodiak

On my 03 kodiak 400. The red reverse light is on while in neutral. It stays on when I shift into forward. Then it Boggs down like it would going into reverse. I checked the linkage and it looks tight and fine. I took it off and manually moved it and got the light to go off but can't get it to stay off. What can I do? Thanks

Seems like your gear position indicator switch unit is faulty. On some bikes it is on the bottom of the gearchange lever, on some the end of the shift drum in the engine. Often they can be taken apart and cleaned out.
