Piston ring question.

I agree with LT80, 0.006" is too much bore wear, and I wouldn't think of altering two stroke rings. I have never filed down ring ends myself, but overheard this conversation at a vintage motorcycle swap meet "The gaps on modern rings are never right, I always buy one size over and file them down to fit the bore" don't know if the person saying this was one of vintage racing's top tuners, or some old idiot.

I just had to file down ring ends on a LT80 Chinese kit install as ring gap was non-existent. Didn't have to file much, but it was done and the machine ran fine for about 50 hours and now has no compression. Have not torn down to see what caused compression loss, but was having other issues with that kit as well...

But at least those rings were supposed to be on that piston. lol
I bet that piston/kit you mention is all scored and such on the intake side.

I don't know...but the OEM is coming to you because I've had enough dealing with that crap!


There is a price to pay for going the cheapo route!!!
