I just picked up my Raptor today. I have been reading and reading about changing the Raptor's front sprocket for trail riding. I need someone to explain to me what this does for the bike. How many teeth are on the stock front sprocket. (I'm getting ready to sleep and don't want to go to the garage to check). What will the 12th tooth sprocket do? Do I have to take a link out of the chain? What are teh riding benefits? Is it a little less wheelie happy? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

by going down one tooth on the front sprocket to a 12 tooth you will gain alot more bottom end and the transition into 2nd will be much better.(second seems to just die out with the stock 13 tooth.) try it you'll be happy!

I lost some top end out of the swap from 13 to 12 tooth front sprocket. I do have to admit though, the machine performes a lot better on the trails now. You will have to pull a link before the season is up though. I adjusted my chain out to the 2nd to last adjustment mark on the rear housing. So I do foresee a chain issue in the future. I definitely noticed the bike revs out a lot faster now. I am still breaking mine in and I had not wound it out in 5th until I changed the sprocket. It is a noticeable loss in top end so for peace of mind I'll let you know. If you decide to change out the sprocket you will need a 1" and 1/4 socket to break the nut loose so go buy it before you order the sprocket if you don't have one. Also on the hills you can hit them in second from the get go without having to slip the clutch.

FYI- for your info

Going to the 12 tooth will make it wheelie a little bit easier to me. but its worth having the bottom end.
