Has anybody else noticed their front brakes feel rather weak and spongy? Mine have been that way from day one. I am just wondering if this is an isolated occurence and I just need to bleed them, or if all Raptors are like this. I can pull the lever hard as I can but they still won't lock up. Actually these are a lot weaker than my old 400EX. Not good on a machine that fast!

They felt weak and spongy to me as well. I think this is common for Yamaha as my dealer had a several of the Fastline braided stainless brake lines for the dirt bikes. I ordered mine from James Lucky and the brakes seem much better now. Not mushy and they seem to stop better. I ordered the ones for the extended A-arms just in case I added them later. They work fine with the stock ones and they're only $8 more.

I still haven't gotten out yet this year so I'll know more soon.

Front brakes on mine are perfect and respond well.

The rears are acting up now that I adjusted my parking break. Pedal is week and hardly will lock up if it all. Pads still look OK...

Not really a problem for me but I did notice they dont lock up like my Warrior. I think a bit of burnishing is in order. I have noticed that they have improved as they wear.

Hmmm, I was getting ready to make an entry about the crappy feel of my Raptor front brakes also. They are so spongy that I can't get them to brake enough or lock up without getting my fingers out from under the lever. On my dirt bikes and my other ATV's, it only takes two fingers to really do some heavy braking without taking my other fingers off the grip. I wasn't sure if there was something wrong or if they were just crap.

When mine was new, the front brakes were mushy as well. I picked up the best brake fluid available and bled the front brakes. This cured the problem for me.

yamaha uses single piston calipers, honda has dual piston calipers, i replaced my brake lines with steel ones, it helped but my r and 400ex still stoppd better, you can use the calipers from honda bikes , i am not sure if it is a bolt on affair but i will know soon cause i am going to try it,i have seen street bike calipers on a banshee before but the whole quad was custom
