Question Raptor 660r. Will go through gears but won’t move.

So I bought a 660 the other day, took it out riding with some friends and got stuck in the ruts in a farmers field. After getting unstuck I noticed I was unable to downshift, so I stupidly tried to drive out being stuck in 3rd gear, my four wheeer began smoking and stopped moving. We towed it home, replaced the shifting mechanism. I realize now that the part where you place the shifter in, was stripped. Which I have now replaced. Problem is, although it goes through all the gears nicely after the fix, it still won’t move while in gear, just revs. So I ordered a new 660 clutch kit hoping maybe the plates got worn out? Is this the right fix for my machine?

The smoke was most likely the clutches burning up.

Thanks for the reply, I’m not very familiar with four wheeler repairs. Do you think replacing the plates will fix my problem?

Yes it will. You smoked the plates. Easy fix though watch some youtube videos on it and get a climber manual a gasket and plates and youll be good to go.

What do you mean by fibers and steels? Here is the description of the kit I ordered.

This clutch kit fits the following applications:

Yamaha 660 Raptor 2001-2005

This kit is equipped with heavy duty springs includes the full set of friction plates, separator plates, gasket and springs.

All our clutch kits include steel plates which outlast stock alloy units and prevent heat distortion.

Increased flywheel effect of steel plates improves power spread.

Fibers are the friction plates.
