Default tank gauge

I have a 2000 Grizzly 600. The fuel level gauge lens is so bad that it is impossible to see the fuel level needle. Is it possible to replace just the lens or maybe remove and clean it up?

I don't know just what the 600 has, but it may be worth trying some cutting compound or metal polish on the glass, as it seems to be the outer surface that clouds, get that smooth again and it becomes clearer. Most of the on tank gauges are sealed units, but the parts drawing for the 600 shows a "housing, fuel meter" which may contain the glass (or could just be the surround) for under $10.

Where do you find that listing? I see the whole assembly on Amazon for about $40 but no parts individually. It will only be the lens that is completely browned out and that would be all I'd need. I will see if it cleans up with polish. Maybe it is like fogged over headlights and can be wet sanded and polished.

Item 26 https://www.yamahapart.com/oemparts/...bfe4/fuel-tank like I wrote earlier, may just be the bezel, if you take your bezel off and the glass stays in it, you will find out.

It looks like I need the complete assembly. I had the tank off yesterday and the bottom parts of the gauge were all laying in the bottom of the tank. I don't know if they can be reassembled or not. The unit is not available on yamahapart.com.

Update - found one on Amazon for $35.

"The unit is not available on yamahapart.com."

Strange, all those parts were priced up on the website yesterday, that is where I got the "under $10" from, for the bezel.

The bezel may have been available, but not the gauge assembly.

No, the whole lot was priced up, gauge unit was about $38, must have been just that day they became unavailable.

I have sanded and polished several of these gas gauges, on several different quad brands. My results are spotty. Sometimes it is good enough and you can read the gauge, but the cloudiness often goes deep. I wish they used glass instead of that lousy plastic....

I spray mine with WD-40 every now and then and rub with a rag.
