Raptor dependability
#1
I have had my Raptor since Oct 20, 2000. I put a odo/speedo on it the first day. I now have 1050 miles on it , all of them at Glamis or Dumont Dunes. Sand is very hard on machines. I have not had a single problem to date. I have changed my oil after every ride and checked/adjusted my valves 3 times. It runs perfect. I think the Raptor is an excellent product and I am a firm believer in MAINTENENCE.

Same here. I got one of the first Raptors to hit La. I have had NO problems whatsoever.I dont know how many miles mine has on it but it has a LOT of full throttle shifts under its belt, clutch has never faded and 2nd gear is still intact. One thing my Raptor has not been experiencing is mud, i have not taken it in mud even once so im sure that is helping things a little such as brakes, bearings, ect. Carbs havent blown off either.Seems to be a pretty good machine to me, and Im not brand loyal at all,I usually buy what runs the best.Oh yeah, I did bend the stock axle pretty bad, yamaha bought me a Dura Blue Eliminator, other than that, everything is still tight.
Knock on wood.
Since I have posted this, the next time I go to crank mine it will probably catch fire and burn to the ground.

hey i have a 2001 raptori've had nothin but problems with mine. first things to go wrong were it kept dying, then the carb boots kept popping off. the first day i rode it the shocks fell off on the front. then 2nd gear went out. thats were yamaha said they would cover it after they took it all apart. they were going to make me buy the parts and pay them to put it back together. o talk about being pissed!!!! they were going to charge me to take it apart also. i went and picked this thing up in four big boxes. they had the cases split and the tranny all apart in a bag. they told me they wouldn't fix because of riders abuse!! i'd only riden it 6 times it had 10 tanks of gas through it. well i've been burnt bad on this thing. i just got it put back together tonight so the test run will be tomarrow it started right up so i must've guessed right on the inturnals. well i'm just venting just be carfull with these things. It sounds like you've got more problems with your dealership than you do the bike. How did the front shocks fall off? Wasn't there any warning signs? Did you hear a clunking in the front end or feel anything loose?
What do you mean you "guessed right" when you put the engine back together? You reassembled it without a service manual. The bad part is that if that thing blows up again you'll be blaming Yamaha...

no i won't blame yamaha if it goes again but i won't take it back to the dealership ever again. the top bolt in both front shocks came lose and the shocks didn't hold the front up any more it was a rough landing on that jump! the only thing i blame yamaha for is not standing behind there warranty. for the money i paid for this thing the tranny should last trail riding. the internals of the motor are a great disign not a bit of abuse inside at all. the thing ran great this evening just hope it stays that way for a while. when you get one of these from the dealership check all the bolts for tightness i should have it would have save some paint and bruises. any way talk to ya all later D.J.

"the top bolt in both front shocks came lose"
I find that VERY hard to believe, #1 they are lock-nuts, #2 mabe ONE fell out, but NO way 2 lock nuts would work themselves loose at the exact same time. #3 if you diddnt notice them loose something is wrong with you, they are BIG bolts with locknuts!! your front end must have been rattling like a b#stard?! comon now... Mabe if you had a raptor you wouldnt have this problem?? Or if you actually do have one mabe try a little maintance on your $8,000 quad??? Just my opinion.. lets see some pictures... Not trying to be a jerk or anything but this is my opinion and I do not see how that was possible.

i'll be glad to show you a pic. i'm going to a buddies house to get the digital cam. this is coming from a guy with a blaster. i do maintain it. i have and restored (except the raptor and tri-z) a 01 660r 87 tec4, 88 trx250r, 86tri-z (which is now for sale almost mint still has the factory stickers every where fork tube on the frame it had been in a barn since 89 it now has a new crank and topend this thing looks good.) and i rebuild all kinds of race bike and quads to i no what i'm doing. and yes as f**ked up as it sounds both shocks rattled loose and fell out on the same jump. there was no warning the thing felt very tight untill the unthinkable happened.
