when to rebuild a 2 stroke
#1
I have a 99 blaster that is going on its 3rd summer. I check compression monthly and to this date it is still at 126-28 psi. Should I just stay with the compression tests and rebuild when it gets below 110 or what. I have been told to rebuild every year regardless. Just wanting to know what others are doing.

Thats a damn good question.. Im in the same boat, the compression is around 125lbs, but its been ridden hard and fast and I think it needs one? It runs perfect and starts first kick everytime, but the rear tires are worn (they say you are suposta do the topend when you change the tires or yearly) I dunno... its got the compression, but I think its worn... anybody??

Compression is the best test for a 2 stroke rebuild, If you are well with in the specs you have nothing to worry about unless you are getting some noise from the cylinder, The rule of thumb on once a year rebuilds really only pertains to MX bikes that were designed for that type of yearly service, I do alot of side work with 2 stoke bikes and quads that my fiends and co-workers own and have found it is not unusual for stuff to get upwards of 5 or 6 seasons of use before the compression really drops and a top end is needed. When it starts taking 10 plus kicks to start your bike cold all the time you know its time

This kind of stuff cracks me up. If your compression is good there is no reason to rebiuld it. You guys think your 2 strokes work hard, I use to work in logging and we would put 2 gallons of gas through our 70+cc chainsaws every day running them 9 hours a day under full throttle in dusty, cold and hot conditions and they would run for years and years. The thought that 2 strokes have to be rebuilt every so often is a myth, they will last just as long as a 4 stroke. Use good oil, mix consistantly, and keep your air filter clean and forget about your compression gauge! They will run every bit as long as a 4 stroke.

Trail Claws are a great tire for trail riding. They get excellent traction on all kinds of surfaces. I have a riding buddy with Razars and in wet loose conditions there not even close. You would not be sorry with a set for trails and woods. I have had them over a year now and still have half tread. Good strong sidwalls even thou I think they are only rated a 3 ply. No punctures to this date other than a roofing nail.
Thanks for all the advise on rebuilds. It is amazing all the different opinions you can get on this subject. I am leaving mine alone till the compression drops below 110. Thanks
