Default 1994 Yamaha big bear shaft

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I have a 1994 Yamaha big bear 350 and My shifter shaft splines are completely gone and I was wondering how hard it is to replace the shift shaft assembly? The fourwheeler is stuck in 3rd gear I believe. Would I mess anything up replacing it while in gear? Thanks in advance!!!

All a bit academic as partzilla reckon it is unavailable. Unless you can find a shaft cheap and easy, I would tend towards welding the old pedal onto the shaft, keep the heat down, and make it so you can grind the weld off and remove the pedal and shaft if you have to get into the case. If you can get an old stock or used part, make sure you get the washer 8 back in correctly, fairly sure you can change the shaft with it in any gear.
