Default Moto 4 350 reverse issue

Have a moto4 350 that won't move when shifted into reverse. It has always had a little firmnes i guess you could say when shifting into reverse, not in a bad way just a tight firm shift. Then I hopped on it the other day and it shifted super smooth with ease and I knew something wasn't right. Wouldn't you know it doesn't move backward just forward. Anyone have an ideas on what it could be? BTW you don't need to be in a specific hear or brake pressed, it will just shift.

I can't weigh up your statement "you don't need to be in a specific hear or brake pressed, it will just shift." as far as I can remember (haven't worked on one for 15 years) 350s have a normal 5 up 1 down gear system, so you have to be in neutral to change into reverse. 250s had a separate hand lever for something, think it was reverse.
