How do you get that the 400EX is a far superior machine than a Raptor? The Raptor is the best sport quad available and that is including the new Cannondale. The EX is a nice quad but it is way down on power, way down!! No reverse. The Raptor is also liquid cooled compared to the air cooled EX. The Raptor also has better suspension. Don't get me wrong, either of these quads would be a great quad to have but the Raptor is in a whole different league than the EX. Honda really needs to increase the horsepower to make it competitive with today's big bore sport quads.

Please go back and read what I wrote.

"The 400 is also a far superior machine stock vs stock for woods riding, it puts more usable power the the ground and handles far better than either the Banshee or the Raptor."

I said that the 400 was stock for stock better at WOODS RIDING. I am sure your Raptor could beat me in a drag if the carbs don't blow off, or your axle doesn't snap if we hit some bumps along the way. That was not my intention. The other keywords I used were stock for stock. I am sure with a grand for a-arms, axles, and ZPS shocks you could build the Raptor to be faster in the woods, but put that grand into the motor of the already $1000 cheaper EX and the Raptor still does not have a chance in the woods

Ok, come back from dream land! I have ridden both in the woods and the Raptor just kills the EX in every aspect of riding. I am not downing the EX but it is just the facts that it can't hang with a quad like the Raptor and it is going to take more than a thousand dollars to get the EX's puny engine up to the caliber of a 660 like the Raptor's. Oh yeah the only blowing a Raptor would do would be it blowing by you on any terrain! I own a Banshee and even I can admit that the Raptor is a far superior machine so how about you come back to reality also. What's the big deal if the EX isn't as good as the Raptor? It's like comparing apples to oranges the EX just isn't capable of doing the things that a Raptor can do. You might want to also check you rear brakes to see if they are installed correctly.

2001 Banshee chill out! The 400ex handles much better than the stock rapter and thats a fact not an opinion. Also if you sink jus over $1k in the 400ex motor you'll be in the mid to high 30's for HP which is Raptor territory. The Ex is also 50lbs lighter. Both quads have there ups and downs but the ex is defintly the better woods bike stock for stock.

i don't knwo about raptors or banshees but i know i can ride a wheelie through every gear on the balance point on a 400EX and i can ride one through 4 gears on my LT (i haven't had room for any more) and through 3 gears on a blaster all at the balance point. maybe its just someting with banshees and raptors. i remember a while back there was somethin about raptors boggin in wheelies posted here and i think one response was to make sure the floats are adjusted correctly in the carb.

Chris, where'd you get the EX is 50lbs. lighter? It's slightly less than 25lbs. lighter. Stock weight on the EX is 374 while a stock Raptor is 398. That's only a 24lb. difference.

As for your experiment of standing the bikes up on the grab bars and seeing how they run. We just did it yesterday with my bike and my cousin's 400EX. When you stand them up while they aren't running the fuel washes out of the carbs. Both bikes ran like $hit for the first 5-6 seconds until the bowls filled with fuel again. You just need a carb adjustment on yours.

ATV Sport has the actual measured weight at 399lbs for the 400ex and 444lbs for the Raptor. These weights are wet.

That has to be a typo. I remember reading somewhere that the wet weight of the Raptor was 425. If 3 gallons of gas and 2 quarts of oil weigh 25lbs. in the 400EX it's going to weigh 25lbs. in the Raptor. The only fluids that the Raptor has that the 400EX doesn't is the antifreeze and that's less than a gallon. So the 3 gallons of gas, 2 quarts of oil and less than a gallon of antifreeze can't cost the Raptor 50lbs.

BTW for you guys that said it must be my Raptor ONLY that dies when at the BALANCE POINT your wrong. I rode another yesterday that did the same thing. The 400ex is the wheelie king!
