Raptor serial number, I think we got a fresh one..

I have 3 Raptors. My 1st one has SN 0777, 2nd one SN 6163, 3rd one SN 12141. I seem to have a good mix of time as far as SN's go. All 3 have had not one problem as of this time. We ride trails and dunes with drags in sand. The 1st and 2nd one get rode harder than the other with the 2nd one being the one that gets rode real hard. The 3rd one is just past breakin. All 3 are bone stock. The 1st one has 12/42 gearing, the 2nd one has 12/40 and the 3rd had the stock 13/40. All 3 seem to be different in small ways. The 3rd one seems to be all around better as far as shifting goes but there are no problems with any of them at this time. All 3 have the same condition when shifting into reverse... you have to hold the shifter down with your foot and you can feel it go into gear when you let out the clutch. If you don't hold it down sometimes it will not go all the way into gear and will grind. I did ajust the valves on 1 & 2 and found that the intakes were really tight with the exhaust settings ok. I am watching these post real close to see if there is a pattern for failures. All in all at this time I think #3 seems to be better than the others. Time will tell! I ride with a large group of other Raptor riders and only one so far has had his carbs blow off and he has after market exhaust with stock jetting. His SN is less than 6000.

You're very knowledgeable RaptorRRC. Everything you said makes perfect sence. One important point you made needs to be passed on to all Raptor owners.
After about couple of months of riding, the valve adjustment should be checked to keep optimum performance. The exhaust valve clearance usually stays within the spec. but the intake valves will tighten up slightly after all the parts have seated in. After the initial adjustment, they seem to stay OK but still needs to be checked periodically.
On the reverse gear, mine is the same. When sitting still, if the gear dogs aren't aligned, it won't engage. So while holding the shift down, let the clutch out slightly and you'll feel it slide in. The only thing with reverse is that it's actually geared too tall. I haven't heard of any gear problems and the reverse gear has not been updated on the `01 models. For that matter, there has been no mid production changes on all `01 models so low frame number or high frame number, there all the same. I hear that `02 model will have some updates. It will be announced next week so I'll keep u posted.
