Raptech,
I think you are a very knowledgeable guy, but you are kind of saying baby the raptor. I have owned a 250r full race, modded out banshee, and now a modded 440ex and now I am going to get a raptor. With all of the machines that I have owned I have not read or have been told to baby my shifting. You almost make it sound like the raptor is a delicate sunday driving four wheeler like some of those polaris's and those you can beat on and not have to worry about the tranny. The raptor is the only fourwheeler that I have ever heard about that one has to take extra special precaution while shifting and some still have problems. I am not bashing the raptor because I want one and am getting one but I may get an 01 but am sceptical on getting it for that reason. As a matter a fact the guy wants to trade me his raptor because he is afraid to break it. And one more thing raptech he has owned the bike for 8 months and I told him I will trade him if he gets the extended warranty. Can he still buy the warranty after the first 6 months?

I imported my Raptor from FL to Turkey which cost me almost 10 Grands and have the same tranny problem.I called the dealer and they act like what a strange thing this is.... Although I mailed them some of the forums and did not ask to cover my labor expenses but just send me the parts they are still ignoring me. Does any body knows the mail adress of the customer relations of Yamaha USA? (I cannot call toll-free from here and any other way is too expensive to listen the tape recorder for 15 min)
Thanks

Adjusting shifter to correct false neutrals
I had to do the opposite. My shifter was too low so I was always hitting false neutrals when landing from jumps or going over logs. I wear a size 12 MX boot and the shifter probably sits further from my toes than others - where the distance from the bottom of the boot to the top is higher. I couldn't even use the built-in shifter adjustment to raise it enough. I had to remove the shifter part that connects to the engine and move it one spline higher and then fine tune with the built in adjustment. It solved almost all my false neutrals.
Hope this advice helps a few others out there.
Raptor #11,000+ with no tranny problems so far. I use reverse all the time and often don't use the clutch when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st. Run a 12 tooth front and 41 rear.
My biggest issues so far have been a bent axle, loose sprocket and brake rotor where they connect to the axle, and the compression setting on the rear shock doesn't work. Been told by my dealer all this will be fixed under warranty as soon as I get back from vacation.

Alljuice, I'm not saying to baby the Raptor (I may have mislead some of the readers). Reading this stuff, I'm not sure who they are, what their riding skills are, how they ride, what are they doing, what am I doing different, etc. so I wanted to cover the basics trying to understand the situation.
Based on my experience with many quads (including the 400EX), I've never had a tranny problem. My buddies and I have owned our Raptors since last Sept. and we have not had any major problems. We share a lot of input on riding and maintenance and we don't let weeds grow under them. I'm sure that there are legitimate cases but I have no details and who am I to judge.
I think that Raptor is one of the best quads and I love the styling. If I had to do it again, I would buy a Raptor.
Anyway, about extended service policy, I'm sure Yamaha will offer the coverge but not sure. Try your dealer, I think they offer the pre-owned vehicle coverage (I sound like a Lexus salesman).

bash, call ct racing theyll tell you all about how theyve rebuilt the trans in all three raptors theyve had,the first one they got was owned by yamaha and had to be done twice, said they have not had a problem with the newer gears yet but talked to a guy that has rebuilt his three times with the newer ones,by newer im talking about later production run 2001 parts.he called yamaha to get info about any changes in material ect and they told him there was no problem, and basicly wouldnt tell him anything,THE GOOD NEWS they just recieved some prototype billet steel gears and are putting them in this week, going to put 300-400 miles on them this weekend and tear it apart next week to see how they hold up,the bad news is they wont be ready for sale for 7to8 weeks.im really looking forward to rebuilding the trans now and then redoing it again in another seven months.

Thanks for the info of all on this post. I had issues of getting a false nuetral as well. After reading these posts, and smacking myself for not looking at this earlier.
I adjusted the shifter as directed..
I road all day saturday and sunday. got a few False nuetrals,
Read this post changed the shifter around..
Im the stupid one who overlooked this simple adjustment. World of difference.
Goes into gear more solid, Eliminated the hit n miss type feel.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! ** everyone who posted **

I haven't had a problem yet, but all you guys made me nervous so I went out and bought the full Fortin Racing gear set that CT is running. They are for sale NOW for 750$, and it is probably worth the peice of mind knowing it wont break. So far, none of these have ever broken. Have fun, and if you want some pics, etc, let me know
