Your 400 Warrior will keep up with any stock 400EX. Of course, gearing will make a BIG difference. Quadcrazy and I visit the MX track regularly (and I'm sure he'll be replying with all kinds of tall tales). His '98 Warrior has been ported and upgraded with a cam. Both of our quads have been regeared and use slip-on pipes and performance filters. In a straight line, performance is almost identical (possibly a slight edge to me). On the track, he has a slight advantage in tight corners due to an extended rear axle.

FYI- the stock Warrior carb is actually larger than the stock 400EX carb. For this reason, the Warrior responds well to engine upgrades. Both of these quads use somewhat dated engine technology (the XR400 engine has been around long before the '99 intro of the 400EX quad). All this talk about 4 valves running higher rpm's doesn't apply unless you're a diehard racer (in which case you're probably on a 250R anyhow).

But in almost every case, driver ability is the most important factor on the track. We've blown by extremely modified 400EX's, Raptors, Banshees, Bombardiers, etc. I know these guys are much faster in a straight line, but most of these posers have no skills on a track.

B400W,
Don't waste your money. My friend has the same kit and a ton of mods, and I beat him on pavement everytime! And in the woods it's even worse! mt400ex, where did you get your info that the Warrior is lighter than the 400ex? It's not! As far as horse power, it is only effective if you can get it to the ground. You can have 100hp, if your bike cannot get it to the ground effectivly, you are wasting it.

I would much rather have 27hp that gets to the ground, than 30hp that just rings the tires! Think about it, how many times have you seen a top fuel dragster lose a race because he put too much HP to the gound and went up in smoke? I know for a fact the 400ex can get more HP to ground more efectivly than the Warrior! You have to upgrade alot more than just the motor to go fast. Would you rather have Jeff Gordon's car with 700hp, or a completely stock S-10 pickup with 1,200hp?

I'd say the warrior would probably win, because stock it's not too far behind the 400ex, and I know my 416 kit, cam, and porting really woke up the motor on my 400ex.
