How fast is the banshee truthfully........
#1
I love banshees, they are the alround classic sweet sport quad so don't get me wrong but a budy of mine just bought a 2001 banshee with pro circuit pipes and the guy he bought it off of said it could go 92 mph. Now the kid who bought it believes it, but I somehow don't hink thats true. Please set me straight. I know there fast but are they really that fast.
If any of you have banshees, tell me your mods and how fast you can go.
Thanks

i was conversing with a butthead from work who claimed he used to have a banshee that went 130mph. when i chuckled he said oh yeah they will do 120mph right out of the crate. i said funny, i had a 95 banshee that wouldnt go that fast and my new raptor is faster. seriously i think the stock speed of a banshee is stated at 64mph. i remember magazines posting that speed so dont hold me to it. comparing it to my raptor i would say that is a fair guess.

Sparkster, this is the truth... The rest of you listen up. These are my experiences:
Bone stock running on paved road: 72 MPH
Added Boyeseen reeds and K&N air filter running on paved road: 74 MPH
Added Toomey pipes running on paved road: 82 MPH
All measured with a GPS on flat & level road with no wind and all runs were with stock gearing and stock tires at an altitude of 6900 feet.
No, a banshee doesn't do 64 nor does it do 92. By the way, I have a picture of my GPS on the banshee after a top speed run on my site under banshee photos.

I agree 100%
We clocked my neighbors Shee (K&N Filter only) at 74mph on a slight downhill grade on pavement with a GPS.
However, this is the funny part. He claims that the GPS is wrong because his girlfriend clocked him at 85mph following him with her truck. Hmmmm...wonder which one is more accurate? Also I wonder if it was the other way around which one he would believe.
So basically anybody that tells you that a Stock Banshee will do over 80mph on a level surface are full of it.
If you really want to shut your friend up, install the HPD Full Trail Mod on your 400 Scrambler then smoke his @$$ with it. Make sure to do it with witnesses and a video camera though.
Later.

My stock 99 banshee's speed: I dragged it against a CBR 600 when I first got it and I hit 75 mph on his speedometer. Not the best way to calculate a top speed, but recently I installed a Digital speedometer/computer by trail tech page 174 if you have the new rocky mountain catalog. The speedometer locks in your top speed, I hit 74.5 mph racing down the street. I may have been able to get a little more if I had full tire pressure in my front tires, one tire was really low on TP. But, I am runninig a pro-flow foam filter kit with the stock airbox cover and snorkel On. The filter is dirty, so its not really getting any extra air over the stock air filter.

I just thought I would chime in to say that I also agree with WyoDuner. His results and experiences are within about 2 mph of what I have personally observed which makes him dead on. You can expect to see a varience of a couple mph depending on different factors like rider weight, tires, altitude, and even differences in who has a cleaner airfilter or who observed proper break in procedures when new.
