The TOP 4 X 4 QUAD is......

Alright people, time to stir up some #@%*!, and talk about what makes this forumn interesting at times. Some say the SP 500, which I never really understood. Maybe the king of mud and smooth ride but that's about it. The new Kawie?? Possibly, but does Kawie have the belt thing right now, (i.e. 40,000 quads recalled last year, biggest recall in history, which at least they recalled it) and elecronic engine braking??. Sealed braking sounds sweet but some heavy equipment guys say if it leaks the oil or breaks the case, your brakeless. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashin, just mere observations, I like both Kaw and Polaris bikes. Lets face it, if the GRIZ holds up quality wise, it will be the one to beat. It may not out perform in every category, but should do well in all aspects whereas others falter in some regard. It's all about tradeoffs; higher ground clearance, better mudding = less stability off camber, high center of gravity, you can't have it all. I think the griz may be one of the best all around quads, what do you guys think???

"The top 4x4 Quad is.............." Drum roll please.......... The all new Prairie 650!!!!! Let the Good times roll. Face it guys, read the review on the Grizz and read the review on the V-twin. It's obvious which one was more well recieved. It will take a lot of money for Yammy to buy out that shoot out!For real, they are all good quads. It's all in what you prefer.

I hope the new Praire does well, but I know two people that have Praires, not the new one, and they have had nothing but trouble with the Kawasaki clutch/belt system. The review did say that the plastic was extremely thin, and they couldn't see any way that it will hold up to every day riding. Time will tell with the new Grizz. In my opinion, it is easily the best looking utility offered at this time.

So on the grizzly what is getting drowned out,its probably simple enough to waterproof whatever the problem is.

99Griz, According to the magazine, Yamaha said it suspects that steam is being drawn into the air stream. I would be severely upset if I paid $7,000 for a 4X4 that I couldn't get wet because of a design flaw!! On the good side they will relocate it for 2003 and say it is for "better all around performance" just like they "fixed" the raptor tranny and axle and said it was for better performance. I have not heard of Prairies being problem prone. The recall was because of a few isolated cases where the belt broke and somebody got hurt because of it.

And the new prairies have a sensor that tells you ahead of time if there would be a problem with the belt. I rather have the warning light come on than have a belt thrown threw the casing or leg.
I rather have any potential problems recalled, such as how honda and kawasaki does, rather than ignored such as yamaha does (see raptor tranny threads).

Yamaha pumped the Kodiak right out too and it's been a good quad so we'll have to see on the griz. My Kodiak sputtered at first in deep water till I put dielectric grease in the spark plug boot. The griz has the same 45 degree tilt head for low center of gravity. It puts the spark plug a little lower to the ground/ water. It may be as simplistic as that.
