2001 Kodiak mods
#1
Just got my Kodiak, damn that bike is fun!! Lots of power, back end shakes loose, donut-ready, eats up mud for days. Questions though... I can't find much info on mods for it. I'm thinking aftermarket pipe, re-jet the carb, K&N filter. Has anyone else done this? and how was the outcome? It has plenty of power already, but brother-in-law has a 2002 Grizzley, and THAT is an awesome display of power. I'd just like to boost mine up a notch.
P.S. Within 6 hours of getting the bike, I had to pull a less cabable Polaris out of a mud pit. Glad I got the Warn winch. ;-)

As far as I know the clutch kit doesn't effect the top end. I can't say for sure. Ever since putting on larger tires, I don't top the quad out anymore. I hear ya about the wife. But when the time comes, check out treadepot.com. They have the best price on tires I can find. I went with 26" Mudrunners all the way around and it cost me less than $325 (including shipping). Techinically, all you would need to replace would be the rear. But if you go with anything other than 25" I strongly suggest you change out all the tires.

Okay, clutch kit sounds like a winner. I like the mudrunners on yours, I'm also partial to the Outlaws, but tires will have to wait 'till my wife calms down. I suppose all of this aftermarket stuff, (i.e. pipe, rejetting the carb) will void my warrany? Hate to do that. Gonna have to stay within the 'boundaries'. Where can I get my hands on one of those shock adjuster thingies? I've got a feeling a screwdriver and hammer would work just fine, but the tool would be nice. Stock ride is kind of squishy for me. Is the stock jetting fine for sea-level?

Outlaws are a good tire. I went with the Mudrunner because I wanted something for the mud, but didn't want to lose my hardpack performance. As far as the stock jetting goes, it's my understanding the jetting is set for each dealership according to their location. i.e. if dealership is in the mountains, jetting is set accordingly....if dealership is at sea level, it's set accordingly. As far as the shock adjuster, dealership sells them for $20. I just used a pipe wrench to adjust mine. I'm really not sure what might void a warranty. I imagine if you sneezed on it, that would void the warranty. hahaha.

Plenty mods are available for the new Kodiaks. Only mods I have that would void my warranty is my tires. If I decide to keep the Kodiak I might get the clutch kit. I know Im cleaning out completely this winter.
FKNA, I tried about 10 different ways to get my pics on here. Give me an example of what codes or symbols you used for yours.
Thanks

Were can I buy the dielectric grease? Where is the damn carb jet that you adjust? I found the idle adjust, couldn't see any others. When cold, mine idles for a while, then settles down and kills. I read another post saying that was an idication of a 'lean' condition. I need a shop manual.
I really think a couple of Outlaws on the back of mine would be great! Plus the clutch kit. Wife is going out of town for a week, I'll do the clutch kit then. When Pres. Bush sends us our check, maybe I can do the tires. Still haven't figured out how to do a wheelie...
K.O.D., Why would your tires void your warranty? Too damn tall? Your mods "Supertrapp IDS2, K&N "clamp on" filter, Dyno jetted", how'd they work for you? That thing must throw some mud! Hate to be beind you. I got caught behind brother-in-law on his new Grizz 660 on a muddy trail the other day, no fun at all. What do ya'll think the stock HP compared to modded HP is? It would be awesome to be able to bump it from 401cc's to 450cc's, get better shoes on it, and kick some a**! All this to get to the deer stand quicker....

Hi Crab, I bought a dealer warranty. They said taller than stock tires "not wider" but taller would void my warranty with them. I know it doesnt make since but they turned around and told me I could put a lift kit on!? Its just a dealer thing. The jet kit was a waste of money for my Kodiak. I tried several combinations of main jets and clip settings and according to my GPS nothing was faster or quicker than the stock jetting. I experiemented with the supertrapp and it is approx 3 mph faster than stock muffler. Couldnt tell a whole lot of difference with the K&N either. But it does add a peice of mind as the stock filter broke into two peices. My K&N is a clamp on and I made an adapter for my airbox "have pics" if interested. For some reason I cant get my pics to work here but you can type this in the address bar to see them.

I bought Penkse Marine Grade grease from Wal-Mart. It works great. You may need to adjust your idle mixture screw. It is located at the bottom front of you carb. You will need a very small flat screwdriver to adjust it. I would suggest tightening it up then backing it out 3 turns. See what happens. Check your plug and see what color it is.
