BIG BIG Grizz Problem, NEED HELP!
#1
Hey guys,
You know my bad situation? It got much worse! I just decided to open up and look at the tranny, well that was a little bit of work in itself. Finally got her open. It looks like it was leaking water and mud in from the drain plug, there is mud and dirt everywhere. What can I use to clean it? The clutch is filthy. Also, there is a slight groove in the place where the belt rides on the front clutch, Is this normal? What can I do to clean it up? Someone was saying it needs a certain grease? Help me out, please!

What I would do,(and please keep in mind, I have never seen the inside of a griz trans, and don't know what solvents may hurt it) is spay the entire area with "2001 interior/tire cleaner for cars" It comes in a green container and you can find this stuff at any automotive store, or department store. I spray it all over my engine and aluminium housings and it cleans and shines them up like new. Just first spray the bulk of the mud off with a water hose, allow for the area to completely dry, then spray the "2001" all over the area and allow to sit for 10 min before wipping off. But remember, be sure the motor isn't running or that it isn't to hot, and I wouldn't soak the belt to much, this stuff makes for a very slippery surface to what ever you put it on. Hope it helps.

cleaned my 2000 with mineral spirits and tooth brush on breakdown and put grizzly grease back in, you can buy at yamaha shop for about eight bucks, not a hard solution just a little time consuming. Also must buy a new gasket when take off transmission cover. After i did this i noticed signifigant difference in resposne.

It isn't a big a problem as you think. Take the primary apart, wash it with varsol, put grizzly grease on the rollers, I would take the secondary to a Yamaha shop as you need a spring compressor tool or if you have access to a press. With the clutches removed pressure wash out the case.
