Warrior sprocket blues !
#1
I own a 1997 Warrior. I changed the regular stock tires to a set of 20" Titan Trail Claw 2's. I have lost some of my top end, and i am wondering which front sprocket size(stock 13 tooth)to give me the best ratio. If i go up to the 14 tooth, will i need a new chain ? Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

Chris, I ride the same ride you do & I'm running 20x10/9 Banditxc's. I first went to 14 teeth on the c/s and it seemed to adjust for the 1" difference fairly close. However I did switch to a 15 which I'm currently running. It was a tight fit with the 15, but I finally got it on. One reason was that I used a new RK chain in the stock length.(don't have the # of links at hand <IMG SRC="http://forums.atvconnection.com/ubb/redface.gif">
according to Yamaha, it will accept a 17 tooth c/s but based on the clearance I see, I don't quite believe it--not without modifying the case.
So, to sum up, Chris, you can go to a 14 with no problem, and a 15 with slight diffulty.
If your chain has stretched some then you probably wouldn't have the difficulty I had. You will, however lose some low end with a 15, so it all depends what you want. I ride xx and I don't need lots of low end. With those tires of yours, I'd stay with the 14
