My 96 banshee leaks oil out of the seal where the shifter rod goes into the engine. Its a real small seal. Its a slow leak too. Can i change the seal without taking the engine apart? Im assuming i could just pull the old seal out? If so, where can i get a seal puller for that? Thanx.

It has been years since I replaced mine, but as I recall, I had to pull the case cover off that side of the motor. The seal pounds out the back side with a socket the same size as the seal (yet smaller than the hole it sits in). It's fairly easy and straight-forward.

On second thought, that might have been for the kick starter. I may have had to split the case on the shifter!!!

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago. It was very easy and only took about 20 minutes. On the left side of the quad, I removed the magneto plastic cover, foot peg and the shifter. I just reached in with a small screw driver and popped out the seal. I then slid in a new seal and presto it was done.

I did this on mine about a year ago and I just noticed that it's leaking again. I used rtv sealant around the outside in addition to the seal. anybody got any sure fixed for it?
