My 87 Warrior tops out at 66+. Only mods are Uni air filter and a 14 (13 stock)tooth front sprocket.

definately get 300EX if you plan on trails only!!!!! a 400EX is stronger but has no reverse!!!!! a warrior feels heavier and bulkier than the 300EX and isnt much more powerful. im going to get a 300ex soon, over the warrior. the 300 has a more reliable engine, much better suspension. in fact, the only place a warrior beats a 300EX is in top speed!!!!!

300EX:62mph Warrior:64mph

No they didn't. They named the 300EX the best woods quad ever. Check your facts.

Ladies,Ladies,Ladies the warrior is better than a 400ex any day. i like my 99 warrior over the 300ex and the warrior isn't real heavy. i can jump mine higher and farther than my friends 300ex. mine goes about 65 with bear claws. it has more power and speed than the 300ex. A warrior has reverse and a 400ex does't and yamaha has a better warranty.

I don't want to start a huge fight here. But the Warrior is a 14 year old design that Yamaha is yet to change. THe 400EX is a new design with a bigger engine, better suspension and lighter weight. I highly doubt a Warrior is better.

ps. The only thing a Warrior has over my 300EX is a higher top speed. But the 400EX will walk all over a Warrior.

Big things to consider when comparing a Warrior with either the 300EX or 400EX.
Warrior, 14 year old engine design(2 valve)
EX, 4 valves.
Honda has a better airbox design also. Both Honda's are lighter weight and both have better suspension.
Chain adjustment is easier on the Honda's.
Just my two cents.

I have a 99 400ex and my sister has a 99 Warrior which I have also ridden. The Honda is easily faster in any riding situation I've encountered. As for reliability the Warrior developed a problem with the reverse gear mechanism that cost over $750 to repair. My 400ex, until a recent serious wipe-out, only required 1 new fuse in a year of harder and more frequent riding than the Warrior.

Don't forget, the 400EX is also $1000.00 more. I ride with a couple of both machines. They are both serious quads. With the Warrior, however, the chain adjustment setup must have been designed by someone who hated ATV riders, it's ridiculous. The warrior also seems built for smaller riders. I've seen both machines do incredible things on the trails. If it were me though, and I had the extra thousand, there would be no question about it, I'd buy the 400 EX. I've seen no mechanical problems with either machine so-far.
