Padzz...The buttons are just Radio Shack. The box I built. I think pictures of it being made may be viewable from the one you went to. At least they are for me. Try looking around and tell me it you can see the others..Arlan

You guys are welcome and Arlan nice set up.Turf surfer I hope the shootout goes well and I think you will find that both bikes have their +'s and -'S.One thing I did to enhance the handling of my bike was to stiffen up the shocks by two turns on front and back and it stills rides better than the 650, just gives it a little less body roll and a sportier feel.

alaraptor, just finished reading ATV actions shootout between the grizz and praire 650,they pretty much came to the same conclusions as the shootout in dirtwheels mag. What I didn,t like and they said the same thing when they first tested the griz was that it coughed and sputtered in shallow crossings 1st review and sputtered in deep crossings 2nd review<shootout> issue. I have literally nailed some deep water crossing with speed and have also had mine pretty much floating... Not a single WHIMPER.Have you had any problems with water and your griz?My buddy has a kodiac 400 and when he gets stuck in the deep stuff his will sputter, without forward momentum we figure it,s steam being sucked in.another rider we go out with has the same 400 and says he has never had a problem.what gives. If water is being sucked in go to a snorkel etc
if air box is dry what is causing sputtering and why only on some machines
what,s your take on all this

The reason that the grizz will sputter sometimes is because the gas tank cover acts like a helmet and allows all the steam to accumulate under it,that is where the air box breathes so when it sucks in all that vapor it causes a lean mixture.A quick fix if you have trouble is to remove the air box lid and where the snorkle goes under the gas tank press that part in and and put the lid back on so the snorkel is on the outside of the gas tank cover.
I am going to try and put a snorkel on the grizz just not a big one.I want to cut the plastic right where the breather is and run a small scoop like vent like on an old Trans am or drag racer but just turn it around so rain won't get in.I just want to make it look professional.

This is off topic a bit, but since turfsurfer was going to do a shootout, I wanted to say that I have had short rides on both machines several times---not long enough to really have a definite favorite, but my immediate observations were: The Prairie has a much smoother engine with a really nice sound and it is quieter than the Grizzly. The Prairie has no hesitation on take off, where the Grizzly bogs slightly and then takes off. The Grizzly is a bit smoother riding and has a softer seat (the smooth ride part wasn't a totally fair test because the Prairie was fitted with Blackwater XT tires while the Grizzly's were stock). The Grizzly's headlights are bulbs and are sunk in the grill quite far (a perfect place to have snow build up and cover the lights) where the Prairie's lights are quartz and are flush with the grill. The Prairie's shifter is much smoother than the Grizzly's. The Prairie has a reverse limiter override. I think that the Grizzly is nicer looking, and the IRS gives it more clearance at the back and a plusher ride, but I love the sound and performance of the Prairie's engine. I haven't been able to test the front locking systems yet so I don't know which one I would like best. I hope to test them both on the same trails soon to see which one I would prefer overall. Dirtwheels probably was right when they said that if you want the sportiest ride, buy the Prairie, and if you want the most comfortable ride, buy the Grizzly. The perfect quad may be a Grizzly with the Prairie's width, engine, shifter, lights and reverse override. Unfortunately that won't happen, so we're stuck with two great quads that are just different. Tough choice! I would be happy with either one. I know, buy both! I wonder if the wife would go for that? Just dreaming.
turfsurfer, I hope you and your friend do your own shootout soon. I'd like to hear your opinion. By the way, what is the price of them in Alberta? I was down in Nova Scotia and the dealer's retail there was 9995.00 for a Prairie and 10200.00 for a Grizzly. Here they want 10200.00 for a Prairie and 10695.00 for a Grizzly.

Snow building up in the lights is pretty picky. You could even go as far as saying that the wide exposed headlights of the prairie could take a rock easier and crack a lens if you wanted to go that way. As far as the shifter, I can't see how the yamaha shifter is hard to shift. I guess it might be if you didn't put the brake on and tried shifting out of park or reverse, but other than that, I don't see it. I actually had more trouble out of the prairie at the dealership, though I've always heard how much easier it is. This isn't practical anyway. Its like saying which reverse it better, hondas push button brake lever or yama/kawi's twist and shift. Its not something that really makes much difference.

I haven't seen where the reverse limiter matters much seeing that the yamaha will spin the tires faster that any geared bike will in reverse. Maybe the diff-lock speed limiter might matter in mud, but that can be overridden by serious mudders and is probably there for safety reasons as well as driveshaft reasons. My main complaint on the grizzly is that there is no parking brake. Maybe I could rig one up, but even with the park feature, I'd still like to have a brake lock for quick on and off situations.

These two machines are obviously pretty closely matched if the comparisons between are getting this picky. 2 years ago, nobody else was ever this close to the sp500.

Jscyoung my griz also retailed at 10200.00 but it comes with the warn winch included in that price and I also talked my dealer into giving me the extended warranty for 100.00.my shootout with buddy was great, his praire had the same new 27" carlisle swamp pro tires and both machines went everywhere we pointed them...even in 2wd it is unbelievable how well these machines do.The kawi did feel sportier and did jump better but the feeling you get on the big griz when your flying down a trail and approach a wash out or rough section and the suspension eats it up and spits it out like you didn,t hit a thing was great.I smoked my friend in any race we had between the two machines but he is at least 60lbs heavier than myself and it is probably like the mags say "to close to call"

Thanks turfsurfer (cool name). Like I said, I also think they are both great quads, so to Andy Bassham----of course I'm being picky! Theres nothing major wrong with either one. I was just expressing my opinion, which would have to be picky to prefer any one thing over the other on these machines. The Grizzly I rode was a bit balky at going into gear. Maybe yours isn't. You don't need a reverse override, but some guys feel they do (that is what this post was originally about), and you would probably like the Prairie's park brake, so to each his own. I am being very picky about both machines because I don't own either one (I just wish I did), but hope to in the future (unless something better comes along---hard to imagine), and I want to know that I picked the best one for me.
Turfsurfer, you have an advantage of no PST there also, which is about 700.00. Thats a huge plus! Sounds like you got a great deal.
