what do you get for removing the airbox lid on a stock raptor? anything? also any suggestions on the best pipe i should get for a 660 raptor? i want something that will have a good sound and give me more low end power...power is more important than sound =)

You will loose power if you remove the lid and don't rejet. If this is your plan of attack, run it through a tablesaw and cut the front two inches off it. That way, you can still install this 2" piece on you airbox to hold your filter in place. Also buy a filter to vent the crackcase tube. I bought a cheap one from the auto part store for about $3.

If you remove the air box you will starve the engine for fuel, (it will run lean and hotter and hotter is not good), this will make no improvement in performance unless you also rejet the carb to a larger jet,(let more fuel in). Removing the air box lid can make a world of difference if you also rejet.

It's hard to say, depends on what mod's you already have done to the engine. One thing is for sure, to get more power you must get more fuel into the engine. Removing the lid will change the ratio of fuel to air and this fuel also helps cool the engine, so unless you want to cook the piston, you will need to increase the amount of fuel to keep this ratio the same.

The tricky part is the jetting and getting it correct. Most of the change you will do is increase the main jet size. Pilot jet = idle to 1/8 throttle. Needle clip position = 1/8 throttle to 3/4 throttle. Main jet = 3/4 throttle to wide open.

With all my mod's I increased my pilot from a 42.5 to a 45 and my main jet from a 145 to a 155 and that was with the air box lid off. I left my needle clip in the same position as stock. Trouble is each quad engine is different even if its the same engine with the same mod's.

Most people install a new spark plug, run the quad for a few miles and then read the color. Black insulator on plug is too rich (too much fuel) and a white plug with little black specks on the insulator is too lean ( not enough fuel and running hot).

Good luck!

like noturaptor said, dont do it unless you rejet and dont bother rejetting and doing the airbox lid till you put on a new exhaust (you'll just have to redo it), I took my airbox and drilled 4 1" holes in it, I have the big gun pipes and silencer (big help on the lowend) and with the dynojet kit I went to 142/144 main jets (I was at 144/150 before the dynojet kit) I ride at 5000' to 8000' altitude but the dynojet kit replaces the needle jet which increases fuel from 1/4->3/4 throttle, runs great my plug is nice and tan like it should be. do the whole package-pipes-jets-airbox you'll be glad you did

I have a Curtis Sparks Racing header and silencer. It's ceramic coated all the way back to the silencer and then it is brushed alum. Sounds awesome!!!! All my buddies love it. It is pretty loud but the note out of the pipe more than makes up for the db's. Don't forget your dynojet jetting kit and maybe a pro design air filter kit!
