Raptor pipes?

Explor,
It is weird huh?
I really liked my Polaris but wanted something different & Polaris didn't have anything to offer. Still don't. I got tired of hearing about the next super quad from Polaris. To me 'Bomb had the right idea. They just came out their first time with a big 650 & kicked every other sport quad right in the face. I just thought that was pretty cool. The Scrambler is great quad, but not what I wanted anymore.
I think you may be right about the pipe thing. I went back to that HMF website & I think as of right now they only make 1 pipe for the DS. I hope it's a good one.
Also, I doubt I did get the quiet core. They said this pipe has a db rating of 98 ! Kinda high.
One more thing, Did you notice if the HMF weighed less than the stocker?

swen,
Just curious, what kind of trade in are they giving you on your Raptor?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about selling mine as well, but want to know what I'll reasonably be able to sell my aftermarket stuff for (Yoshi polished S.S.& Ti pipe, Elkas, etc..) Do pipes and so forth lose their value as dramatically as what you are selling yours for, or are you just in a hurry to unload it?
Has anyone else had much success selling their aftermarket accessories without resorting to selling it at half cost, even if it's still like new?
On an unrelated note, well ur, not exactly, the Yoshi pipe does fit well, the sound is adjustable to a certain degree, depending on if you have the spark arrestor screen in or out, and seems to make the motor a little more snappy and able to rev faster and further.
Whichever pipe a person decides on, I'd try to get a true corrosion resistant metal like stainless or titanium. The ceramic type coatings will eventually come off and you can't scrub on them or re-polish them like you can with stainless steel or titanium. Just my 2 cents.

After talking with raptor720. He suggests that on a stock motor the stock headpipe with the gytr yamaha muffler works best. My friend has this set up and has beaten me a couple of times in straight line comparison's. I still like the big gun for the simple fact, if I decide to go into the motor I only had to buy one pipe. I'm sure this is the case for any aftermarket full pipe design.

Hi Bash,
I was looking at your web site and your full race exhaust looks nice. Would you be able to tell me what the decibal level is on that exhaust and what is the proper jetting? I was looking into buying a Big Gun "Quiet Core" exhaust for my Raptor. I'm still looking to see what the best one for me is.
Thanks,
IronBear

Ironbear,
I don't have a dB test of the pipe. The paperwork that I have gives getting specs for 2 holes cut into the airbox. Judging from pipe diameter and the way it runs with 150/155 mains in it now, it probably could use a 170/175 main jet with the airbox lid removed. As mentioned, the reason I went with Yoshimura is because of their experience in exhaust technology and because I've never say a Yoshi pipe that didn't ooze with quality looks.
I looked through my e-mails and found some info that I had sent to another guy about my pipe. There may be some of you who are interested in the specs, so I'll just paste the content from in below.

I took a few measurements from the stock pipe. Where both pipes (yoshi and stock) mount against the exhaust ports, they measure about the same, BUT, where the Yoshi stays at about that same diameter, the stock pipe steps down to a diameter of about 1.25 Outside Diameter compared to the Yoshi's 1.3+ Inside Diameter. The reason I couldn't get a good measurement on the inside diameter of stock is because the way it stepped down I was unable to get the calipers inside to measure it. Just guessing on the factory's inside diameter, I would say it is probably just over 1 inch or so, therefore the Yoshi's 1.3 ID" is definitely larger and the bends flow much smoother.
Where the factory head pipe meets up with the silencer is more rearwards than the Yoshi. Even taking this into account, the Yoshi is larger. The stock measures 1.5" ID compared with the Yoshi's 1.65 ID. It doesn't sound like a large difference, but considering that the Yoshi pipe starts growing to a 2.25 OD at where it enters the silencer, it is a significant difference.
As far as loudness goes, I'm pleased with it. I didn't want something terribly loud. With the screen type spark arrestor in place, it isn't a lot louder than the stock with the spark arrestor out. With the spark arrestor out, the Yoshi gains some volume, but more noticeable (to me) is that the exhaust tone is a little less muffled and more of a sharper type tone as you notice the exhaust pulse a little more. My description is probably very confusing, but that's all I can really say. Just from memory, it isn't as loud as the Yamaha GYT-R silencer when used with an aftermarket head pipe.
I've only taken it for spin around the yard (I still have less than 15 minutes ride time on it) and although I'll have to ride more to tell very much, from first impressions, it seemed to hit the rev limiter a lot faster. I rarely ever hit it before, even in first gear, but with the Yoshi installed, it seemed to come up a bit quicker if you don't shift out really fast. >>
I'm not going to turn this into a classified ad, but if you find that you are set on getting a Yoshi, e-mail me before you go a pay full price for one that is in no better shape than the one I have. I'm still thinking I'll get rid of my Raptor, but only if I'm able to make something off of the aftermarket stuff before I sell the quad.
