I am trying to decide whether to get a 2001 or 2002 raptor. My local dealer is putting together a 2001 raptor and it looks sweet. I like the raptor and know that they have made some changes for the 2002.

What to do, I am an impatient kind of guy. I have a dealer that is 3 hours away that says they have a 2002. I talked with the guy and then today I talked with some kid that did not know much. He told me they have a 2002 that is black and white and I asked what color the shocks were and he said they were white.

I thought the 2002's that were black and white had the yellow shocks on them. I have an email into the owner and will call tommorow when I get a chance. If it is indeed a 2002 that is what I will buy. I do not want to get a 2001, if the 2002 has some better changes.

If all I can find is a 2001, would you buy one or wait and get the 2002.

What would you do?
Thanks

That kid must not have known what he was talking about. The 2002 black/white Raptors have pumpkin orange shocks. I'd just get a 2001. The only difference between the two are different gear ratios (supposidly they are better, but I haven't talked to anyone who can testify to that), a piggyback style rear shock (a little better than the old shock, but if you're serious into ATV's, you'll replace that anyways), and a beefier axle (same idea here. If you really into ATV's, you'll replace this too.) Plus the fact you can probably get a 2001 for fairly cheap right now because the dealers are trying to make room for the 2002 models.

Hey Ice, when you say fairly cheap for a 2001, what kind of price are you talking. The guy with the bike that he says is a 2002 will sell it for $6400. My local dealer wants 6500 for a 2001 and a dealer down in utah said he will sell the 2001 he has for 6299. Are any of these good prices?

Thanks

Id say that 6299 is a good price if it is out the door.

Its 6299 plus sales tax. There are no other charges like paper work or title charges.

Thanks

I wouldn't pay more then $6200 out the door for a 2001. List price is $6499
for the 2002. I consider the 2001 a left over by now and they should take AT LEAST $500 off for that. Later

I agree with Joey9. $6200 OTD would be a good price.

My buddy at work picked up the last 2001 Raptor at our local shop here and gave $5895. Plus tax, I think just under $6200 with tax

I shopped and shopped and although I am leaning toward the 400EX over the Raptor, I havent totally ruled it out but I can get a 01' Raptor out the door for $5924.00. not tax since I am out of state.

Please Raptor owners, convince me on the Raptor. the way we ride, we rarely hit fifth gear so the 400EX has plenty of power. But I like the idea of reverse and having that little extra boost of the Raptor for when we are feeling kidish. What keeps me leaning on the 400EX side is the horror stories about how Raptor has so many problems and how they feel tipping and narrow.

Sell me Raptor owners... Please...
