Banshee Airbox ~ Warning!
#1
Well, I have had my new Banshee now for 2 weeks. I love it!!! I was riding on a dusty track thursday evening, so last night I checked my air cleaner. Thank goodness I did!!! That stupid plastic ring that goes around the main foam filter was about 1/2 inch from fully seated and the foam was just barely covering the plastic web support for the filter. One more ride, and the filter would have been letting everything right into the carbs!
Now, I admit I have read most every Banshee review since 1987 (I have always wanted one! ), and every article I recall has been negative concerning the airbox setup. Here is the deal, THEY DIDN'T SAY ENOUGH Bad THINGS!!!
I have never seen such a worthless piece of junk.
Usually, a manufacturer will update such a blatant design flaw, why not this time?

Now, I have to take off the airbox lid every day. Who knows when that ring thing is going to fall off of there... Well, at least there is that little 1/4" plastic tab that extends down from the lid to hold the assembly in place.
This, besides the GPOS, I mean, TORS is the only thing worth posting such a bash about!

If they did change it for '02 that means they finally admit there is a serious design flaw and all of us who own the faulty units will get an updated retro-fit kit?
Wouldn't that be great?
I was thinking I would buy a aftermarket setup (if I keep the dual carbs) and send Yamaha the bill for it.

I have to addmit that I never had a problem with the stock air cleaner, But that doesnīt mean that itīs not a piece of crap. I mean, I always had to check it three times before puting the seat back on.
The Good thing is that last month I bought a Pro Flow and I was shocked by how good is the craftmanship of that thing! It looks so sturdy!
Get a Pro Flow from Pro Design and donīt loose more time with the stock one any more !!!
