I have a 98 banshee with FMF torques, cool head with 21cc domes, and K&N clamp on filters. I installed some Carbon Tech carbon fiber (low/mid range) reeds in it and reed spacers. I am running the stock pilots and stock setting on the needle. It bogs like hell when I hit the throttle hard. If I ease through it, it revs nicely. At 1/4-1/2 throttle, it seems to load up, but if I thump the throttle, it overcomes the bogging. I am assuming its a possible needle adjustment. which way do I need to go? I have tried many adjustments on the air mixture screw and it seems to be at its best at 2 turns out. More turns or less, and it boggs even worse. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You will need to install a new K&N jet kit, when ever you modify the air intake volume.by changin'to a K&N or racing air filter the jettin' will be way off. Also when you buy an after market performance pipe you need to change the jetting to compensate for the engine being able to breath better.Check with the manufactures of the pipes and filter to see what jettin' will work best with your mods on your bike, runnin' your atv with improper jettin' can damage your engine,It may be runnin' way to lean.

I am aware of that hardlydangerous. It has run great. I do alot of hill shootin and the mains have been dialed in since I piped it and put the filters on. It has run great till I put the carbon fiber reeds in it. I have always run a 35 pilot for the winter. It gets cold here in Utah. I have been running 330 mains for the hot summers, but moved to 350s for the winter. I do keep up on the mains, but never have had to make a needle adjustment. thats why I thought it might be what it needed. Thanks for your response though.

You may need to go down 1 notch on the needle (toward the pointed end). Meaning stock is at 3 grooves away from the flat end. Going up a groove is leaner and down a groove is phatter. I do believe correct me someone if I am wrong.

dune scooter,
your jet needle operates from approx. 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, apparently where your flat spot appears. When you grab a handful of throttle you are going directly to the jet needle and that is where you're lean; when you pin it you are on the main & it cleans up & runs fine as you say. Forget about raising or lowering the clip. Think in terms of raising or lowering the needle, which is what you are doing, after all. I believe if you raise the needle one position you will clean up your mid range, especially if you are at sea level

Thanks for the input hot_shoe_cv. i will give it a try. I did reinstall the pilots and it did make a difference, but still a bit flat in the mids. I will try raising the needle. I appreciate your advice.

I have FMF Torques, Boyesen Reeds, and a Pro Flow and run with the airbox off. I raised the needle one notch and run with 320 mains at Glamis. It runs perfect and responds well at any RPM. I have the air screws 2 turns out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply sndnyrface. I will give it a try. Its pretty well narrowed down to that as a last resort. I do run alot larger mains than you do due to the altitude and it runs great WFO. Just need to get the mid dialed in.
