We have a 98 Warrior that was running fine but now sounds very rough. We changed the plug, cleaned the air filter, and checked the oil--still the same problem. It idles ok but breaks up when you apply the throttle lever. It is so bad you cannot ride it. A local dealer mentioned that this problem sounds similar to the one where the parking break can cause electrical problems with the ignition. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Thank you for your time!

check to see if your parkin break is stuck in on the lever...i think the parkin brake has something to do with the throttle override system, but not sure i got a block off plate for that nonworkin thing a yr ago

I had a 91 warrior with similar problems. It turned out to be the ground wire on the reverse lever had lost ground for some reason. Try running a ground wire straight from negative battery terminal to the reverse lever. That may help, I have heard of alot of warriors with that particular problem. Hope that helps.

When you have the parking brake applied on your Warrior, the rpm's are limited to 2300--it's some kinda goofy safety feature so you don't take off with the parking brake applied. The problem with this is that the parking brake sometimes don't disengage even though you release it, which would cause a definite power and running problem just past 1/4 throttle. There are a couple of things you can do to fix this, the first would be to defeat the switch completely so the rpm's aren't limited but still retain the parking brake (this is what I did), and second to do the first and remove the parking brake completely. If you don't want to do either, then keep all of the parking brake lever components clean and lubricated so they don't stick.

CB400EX brought up a good point about the ground on the reverse lever, Warriors also had a problem if the ground on the reverse lever was corroded or not making good contact, but is usually noticed by the engine skipping at higher rpm's. To fix this, just run a new ground wire from the reverse lever to the battery ground. Also, check out the Tech Connection on the main page and do an advanced search under the Warrior--you'll get tons of tips from Greg Hall.
