My money is on the TORS (not sure yamaha calls it the same for the Wolv). Maybe some sensor senses your parking brake is on, or reverse...some little stuff like this.
Real Wolv owners will be able to tell you how to check the parking brake or reverse system...

I had that same problem too it took me forever to figure it out, I thought I had bubbles in the gas or a stopped up fuel line. Have you checked your top speed for your Wolverine? According to my Etrex the top speeds for my quads are:
Stock 1999 Yamaha Wolverine 350 4x4: 46.4 mph
1986 Suzuki Quadsport 230 w/DG pipe: 49.0
1985 Honda ATC 200S: 46.1
The speed for the Wolverine seems way lower than exeryone elses, I think something must be wrong. I have drag raced a 1998 Honda 300 4x4 and can only beat it in a very long drag race by 1-2 mph. I am not sure if the 300 was stock since its front tires were popping up in 2nd gear, mine were only coming up in 1st. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? My jetting may be a little lean since it gets hot easy. What about using the cheap gas? Any help would be appreciated.
