I was thinking of putting an hour meter under the seat on my raptor to make sure I keep track of maintenance at regular intervals.

Does anyone know of a good 12v lead that always has power when the key is on? I could probably pull right from the ignition switch itself, but are there any closer leads under the seat? I know the battery is right there, so I assume there is a switched power lead nearby...

Thoughts?

i have the yamaha hour / tach on my raptor it has no lead wire. they have
a 10 year battery. just one wire that you wrap around the spark plug wire
it sences when the motor is on and keeps trac. i mounted it right under the handle
bars to the side on the flat plastic its about 1.5 by 1.5 dim.

YES its the one. i didn't want the tach but my yam dealer screwed up and got the
wrong one. all i needed was the hour meter for 35 so they sold it to me for that price.

I have the tach/hour meter from yamaha and paid $35. It has been a very good tool as far as keeping track of oil changes.

I bought mine from SenDec. It looks just like the Yamaha but says SenDec instead and cost less. They have several styles to choose from.

Which model Sendec meter do you have? I looked through their website, and most of the tachs were limited to 7,000 rpm. There were some that went 16,000 rpm, but they were around $70-$80.

What is the limit on the yamaha unit?

Paintballer-
I can't find the papers on mine and I don't remember the rpm limit. I bought the combo tach/hour meter but I was mainly interested in keeping up with the oil change interval. I think it was about $35. The tach is not a very good one in that it is slow to react so I hardly pay any attention to it. I think just the hour meter is around $20. I am sure you can pay a lot more but for just keeping up with the hours, it is just fine.
