Ok, I have the big gun race exhaust, dynojet kit and the k & N filter for my raptor and am going to be installing them tonight. My question is this, I am not sure what to do with the airbox lid. I am thinking about drilling holes, or I remember someone cut off a few inches.

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks for any help
Paul

Well I have a full exhaust system, Pro-Flow kit, and the Dynojet kit and I run it with the lid off. My main jet size for the kit is DJ148/DJ150, so far it seems to run exellent!

Seems like I remember someone cutting the rear out of the lid to allow for more air flow. I would suggest doing a search on the subject. Sorry I can't really help mine is going to remain a stocker. Chet

I cut the airbox lid in lieu of not running it at all. If you have a tablesaw, it makes a really clean cut. The only reason I run the front 2" portion is to lock the filter in place. Those with the Pro-Flow kit don't have to worry about it.

I've followed Noturaptor's advice on the lid and it worked quite well.

Might want to put a $2.00 pcv filter on the end of the crankcase breather hose.

Anyone: Does K&N even make a prefilter for this unit? How would it attach, given the triangular shape of the filter? If none is available, could a nylon stocking work? Where/how attach?

So, do you guys take the snorkel thing off too, Or do you just leave it in place, it seems leaving it would be good, because you still have a place for the breather hose.

I am thinking about cutting the back couple of inches off the cover. That seems to be a good idea. I guess I can always buy another cover from yamaha if need be.

Keep the suggestions coming.

I tossed the snorkel, since I wanted the peace of mind of having a filter over the hose end.

I made my cut where the lid width steps down appx 1/2", discarding the back portion of it.

I have the Bug Gun Full Exhuast..
Dynot Jet Kit
And Pro Design Filter setup

I still run a full air box lid, as I don't want water getting down on the filter. I am also running with the snorkel. I cut the 'restrictor' plate out of the snorkel, then dremeled the hell out of the in air ports on the box lid, but only on the inside. I still have the full external shell.

This INHO is the best setup, as it keeps water and dirt out, and trust me, it breaths plenty.

Some people will argue with me on this one, that I'm not flowing enough air. It's more important to get your jetting correct, matched to your air flow. I followed the dynojet instructions to the T.. and the damn things screams.. so I'm happy, and I don't worry about water, EVER!

I personally had gobs of problems when I over modded (IE Cut) my bashee's air box lid. Ya it ran, till I hit water, and I ride in way to many woods w/ creeks. If I purely ran on sand, without water issues, I'd prolly cut the lid.

Just my $.02
