I've heard that it is difficult to do regular maintenance on the 00 Kodiak. It seems that the engine compartment is almost completely encased in plastic. How difficult is it to change the oil and filter? How about the trani lube, spark plug etc.? Also, can the front and rear differental lube be changed easliy?

Thanks
Bassman

Bass,
The 2000 Kodiak is my third quad, it is by far the easiest to work on. The oil change took me all of fifteen minutes to do. Ten of those were waiting for the oil to drain! Spark plug, no problem. Front and rear differential, about seven minutes each. I really like how clean the motor stays because of the inner fender skirts and the engine covers.

Dosent the oil lub the tranny, if so, you kill 2 birds with one stone with an oil change!

SportKod,

Thanks for the info. BTW, do you have any accessories on your Kodiak. I'm planning on having a Warn A2000 winch, a handlebar mounted 55w Halogen Headlight, and a backup light. Do you think the Kodiak has the electrical system to take that load.

Thanks,
Bassman

I have a 2000 kodiak and i found out that it produces about 168 watts and if you had everything on (factory gear , lights ) it draws about 80 watts so you have about 80 watts left. you shouldn't draw that much because you still want to have lots going to charge the battery. I have a 55w light up front and i hooked up a 55w light in the back that comes on when i put it in reverse, i also have hand and thumb warmers warn winch and a horn. I haven't had any problems and i have tested the battery to make sure it gets fully charged. you wouldn't want to have both lights (55w) on together for a long time that would be drawing to much but with one being a back up light its only on for a min at most so it will be fine. Good luck
