Next 4-stroke racing quad?
#1
I have been hearing that Yamaha is going to come out with a 4 stroke sport quad for quite sometime now. I think that if they put the YZ400 in a quad that has good suspension, and a good frame. I think that they will compete with the 400EX and banshee real well, this would be a great add to their lineup. Well that is my 3 cents. Merry Christmas everybody.

I have not heard anything about the new utitlity quad, but why wouldnt they put the YZ400 in a sport quad before a Utility, they have a strong utility line-up, but not much of a 4-stroke quad line-up. I hope they put it in a sport quad.

No, the 00 Kodiak has a SOHC 2 valve head, the YZ400/426F has a DOHC 5-valve head.
The Wolverine is a great prospect for the YZ
motor, and after a good look at one, I could see that with a simple redesign of the shocks
one could add up to 2" in the front and 3" in the rear of travel and not affect the frame geometry, Yamaha dose own part of Ohlins(at least thats what I've been told)
so that should make that task easier.
So mate the improved suspension and 5-valve
head to the Wolverines drive train, the 2/4 wd mechanism is located on the front drive shaft on the Grizz/Kodiak so that placement
should not prove difficult.
It is a fantasy, but if Yamaha would do this
it would make a truly great sport 4x4, of course it would gain some weight but it wouldn't weigh much more than a Scrambler 400,
and less than a Scrambler 500(both models 4x4), and it may just outrun both of these
great Sport 4x4's!
But that is a big wait and see.
Great day

To tell you the truth Yamaha doesnt really need to move in on the 4x4 market yet, they should first put the YZ in a SPORT quad first, since that is what it is orientated for, then if it proves itself as the need boost in the 4-stroke sport quad market then they could try it out in the Wolverine, no doubt in my mind that it would take out the Polaris's, well see you on the flip-side!!
