A bit of a silly topic - I have a buddy who thinks a Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 H.O. is faster than my '02 Warrior. I have a hard time believing that. Should I be worried that that big tank can beat me?

stock for stock ........ yep. Sucks i know. get a pipe and rejet with a k+n and change the gearing you should have him then. Even if he does win his bike is still a pile of S#%@ in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

I'd say the pig is faster. Hillbilly is right on. Looks like you already have the pipe and air filter, so either put some extra holes in the airbox lid, or get a Motoforce lid from WB, then get a Dynojet kit coming. Go +1 on the front sprocket and you should have him.

Is installing a +1 front sprocket just a matter of bolting it on?
Or do I have to do anything else?

You will kill him in the beginnig, but his top speed is around 65-70 mph, so it is going to take a lot more than a pipe to beat him. My friend's Sp 500 hauls for a utiliy, it just takes a long time to get to top speed.

I have witenessed a race between a 500 Magnum and a Warrior. On take-off the Warrior smoked it, but once they were both topped out it was pretty close (the Warrior still being a little bit faster). The 500 H.O. Sportsman is supposed to be a fair amount faster than the 500 Magnum so I think there is a good chance that it would win on top end.

CornDog, I would be willing to bet that the Sportsman will have a hard time touching 60MPH on top. I mean the new Grizzly and Prarie are lucky if they hit 65. I'd say 65-70MPH is way off for the Sportsman.

Just FYI on the same GPS that you have the Garmin Etrex my 99 SP 500 will go 57 to 59 MPH. . The Speedometer reads 65 {which is past the 60 MPH speedometer and is pointing almost straight down} maybe that is why CornDog thinks 65 but then again the SP 500 HO is suppose to have 20% more power. I have never tried to race a Warrior with it so I am not sure how the race would come out. Down hill paved road I have hit 67 MPH on my GPS which is way to fast on a Sportsman. My friend has a Grizzly 600 and ever time we have raced it was side by side all the way to top speed then I can just barely edge away from him. So if you have raced a Grizzly that might give you a idea against a Non HO SP 500.

A2000,
It's pretty easy to do. Crack the nut loose, slide the old one off, put the new one on, and adjust the chain as needed. With your ProDesign, are you running with the airbox lid on or off?
