I was just wondering, i have a 2000 Grizzly and absolutley love it.
Are they not the best bike, even though they run a little hot.
What do you guys generally use yours for and how do they perform for you?

I love it.

If the Rubicon is all that it's cracked up.
I'm trading the 00' Kodiak.

Not the Grizzly.

For that Bruin shall always possess, a place
in my garage and my Heart, that and My R6,
coincidence that both are the most Powerful, and (debateable about the Grizz)the Best handling in there respective classes(the R6 is undeniably
the King of the 600cc Superbikes, word from the rags and the Street).

And in My opinion, The Grizzly is King of the
Utility 500-600 class.

I must ask this Question,

What is all this 3-WD stuff i keep hearing?

It has drive shafts going to both Wheels in
front, and when tied up to a Pole on a Dirt
Road(I do not condone this action, for anyone else, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK) it dug 4
hole's.

Thats what I
say

y2kodiak asks, what is all this 3wd stuff I keep hearing?Neither the Grizz nor Kodiak will spin all 4 wheels in serious mud conditions.I worked with a friend of mine who owned a 98 Grizz, and we proceeded to make it an eventful day of mudding one Sat afternoon. These two quads are equipped with limited slip differentials, which only deleivers power to ONE front wheel. In the worst of situations,my buddies Grizz would only spin one front tire, allways the one not needing the traction.I've seen the same thing happen on the Kodiak.Thats one reason Highlifter sells locker kits for.In the worst mudding conditions,a locker is a real benifit.Of course my friend kept telling me that my Mudrunners were the only reason I was conquering the same mud I was pulling him out of.As the afternoon continued,he to realized the advantage of having 4 wheels spinning with power in bad mud.The Grizz is a powerful machine.Im thinking it would be great in the mud with a locker kit to.====BILL

I forget what I used to use my Grizzly for, its been in the shop since October with reverse stalling problems. Given the chance I'd swap it for ANYTHING!

Nice Explanation.

But that dose not make it a 3-WD, as you and others claim.

By shifting my weight(somthing the lighter and very well balanced, Grizz responds well
to) I have been able to transverse mud as
well as any other Quad.

And I still think my YZ400F is the best Mud
ride made, that has only 1-WD!

Azrob, it appears to be one or two things.

Your dealer is Shrugging You Off.
or
Your dealer's mechanics are not what their
supposed to be(Highly Trained/Skilled).

Bad Dealers do occur with all brands(execpt
maybe Honda) or they may be more concerned
with their Snowmobile and or Street/Dirt
bike Patrons.

If you have a Warrenty they may just keep
you on a leash till it expires.

As far as the Reverse problem, one theory
may be a Faulity CDI(I don't work on My Grizz
so I probably am wrong), The Capacitor(s)which
restrain the charge until it reaches a set
level, may also function as a Rev-Limiter,
by allowing no more then a set number of
pulses over a given time frame, perhaps
when in Reverse the charge is sent through a
different Capacitor(or set of) which in turn
acts as a Rev-Limiter(multiple path CDI).

In which the Capacitors may be at fault.

Or it could be as Simple as a Grounded or
Broken connection/Poor Wireing(Old Brittish
Motorcycles were notorious for this, the
Lucas "Prince of Darkness" Lighting System,
nothing to do with Reverse, but an Electical
problem(could be very Painful) none the less).

All three are Tested easly with a Multimeter
(Digital Autoranging prefered.) Poor wireing
involves a Good Look at condition and Type(usually listed on the Insulating Cover) and
a good Service Manuel to tell you what's
supposed to be used are good ways to Diagnose/Cure that Ailment.
Good Luck
Super Day

I had a Grizzly for about 5 months I loved the power and speed and will miss it, however
I traded it for another 450 Foreman last week
(I already had a 98 450 my son now rides). This weekend we all went to do a little mudding and I went everywhere the grizzlies went and when we hit the water I went farther. The grizzly was a fun bike but it couldn't hold up to my style of riding such as putting around in the mud. Slow riding would make it vapor lock. last Tuesday there were thirteen grizzlies showed up at the dealer to try to get Yamaha to fix thier mistake. These Grizz owners all ride with the group I ride with slowly they are being traded off on a variety of different bikes

I Have a 98 Grizzly, with 99 heat sheilds of course. I love it. I use it for Hunting, Clearing Snow for a living in the winter and just plain having fun. There is no other 4 X that i would buy accept a Kodiak for my son. The Power is unreal it goes where ever i want to go, even if i have to use a winch :-) . I have thought about a locker, I do have them Front and rear in my Toyota, so there is no need to tell me the benefits. What people don't tell you is the draw backs like tire wear, wider turning radius and even stiffer stearing depending on the locker. In 1200 kms there was one instance where i thought a locker would have benefitted me or on the other hand it might have got me in more trouble, lol.
