Just got RZ350 jugs for my Banshee now how do I make 'em work? I also need to know what kind of power gains I can expect and where in the power band I can expect them.
Thanks

Im pretty sure you will need most of the RZ ignition stuff and wiring harness. CDI too i imagine. The servo motor gets an electrical signal indicating the correct RPMs to work the valves and im sure you need a bunch of stuff to get that working

Take them back! Unless you plan on putting a fortune in this thing that's your best bet. Parts for the RZ350 street engine are scarce in salvage yards, and most of the parts new form Yamaha have been discontinued. If you want power, invest in a stroker kit. I don't remember the horsepower figures of the RZ engine but it wasn't "off the charts" compared to the Banshee engine. The performance that the RZ was knowm for lies more in the gearing of the transmission than the power of the engine itself. So,MY opinion, and I stress MY, would be to beef up the Banshee engine unless you have a complete RZ350 bike at your disposal for parts. An extra one wouldn't hurt either. P>S> You DO have to have all electricals from the bike. The Banshee ignition is not compatible because the Banshee doesn't have power valves that alter the timing.

Knowsalot: Have you riden an RZ equipped Banshee ? Do you know racers who run RZ equipped Banshee's............. This is a popular mod in New Zealand and the results are superb....

Facts are as follows: stock HP is around 55 with good pipes on board, stock carbs, stock porting. Any porting setup that works in a Banshee works better in an RZ, same with strokers.... it's the same bottom end......

RZ Powerband is way wider and easier to ride than any banshee setup because of the powervalves.

yes some parts are probably very expensive if bought new from Yamaha or discontinued now..... plenty of second hand parts avaialble around the world EXCEPT the US where the bike was a very limited sale item. There is RZ stuff on e-bay all the time.........

electric's how many boxes full of stuff do you want.........

Yes you need the RZ stator, flywheel, CDI pack, YPVS controller black box and servo. You also need a small 12 volt battery to run the setup.

See my web page.......

I didn't even look to see where you are. My mistake. Your country is obviously different from the U.S.

kiwi...I know in the past I asked a similar question and you responded with about 3 pages of stuff on how this setup works and how to get it to work but I searched and can't find it. Do you have a website or know of a website with any info on this setup?
I was planning to put Vito's pistons in my factory jugs but I came across a pair of RZ350 jugs instead. Do you know if I can still use the Vito's or should I run a regular piston?
I wasn't planning to make a screamer that was any better than my Toomey outfitted 99 but it seems everything is coming together to make my "extra" 93 banshee something to really recon with.
Thanks

Lets recap here, you have the jugs, do they have the powervalve assemblies and do you have the RZ head, it's different to the Banshee, (RZ has larger jackets than project over the powervalves)

Banshee pistons work OK in the shee. The Vito's should work great so long as they are not the ones with the cut down exhaust port crown, they will likely have to much exhaust duration with the power valves open.

want real world info on HP from an RZ vs a Banshee....

If you decide tha the conversion is not for you I'd be interested in the cylinders.

Stock RZ 350:
claimed power 52 bhp@ 8750 rpm
claimed torque 30.4 lb.-ft.@ 7500 rpm
Quarter mile 13.19 sec. @ 99.22
0-60 mph 4.7 sec.

Chet would have liked to have had one of these RZ 350's in the 80's instead I had a Kawasaki 500 3 cylinder with expansion chambers and it was fast enough for the times.

Yes I have the head, power valves and the jugs. That's all. I was going to get the vitos with the cut down exhaust but I haven't bought them yet. How much are the jugs and head worth? I haven't even got them yet, they are in transit, but I think I got the ULTIMATE DEAL on 'em. Is a factory crank good enough or am I gonna be dumping major bucks into this thing?
