Warrior Rev Limiter
#1
Do the '99 Warriors have rev limiters? I know there is an adjustable screw on the throttle to keep inexperienced riders from going to fast, but my screw is backed all the way out. It seems that when i get to a certain or rpm in 6th gear it sounds like I slipped out of gear. When I let off the throttle a bit it engages again. Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it?

Make sure you are fully engaged in gear. Keep upward pressure on your shift lever as you release the clutch, you should feel it drop the rest of the way in and the problem disappear. As far as a rev limiter I believe that it's mechanical and not electrical. Your valve springs float long before any rev box kicks in. If you want more RPM's it's a cam/valve spring swap ya need.

The gear us already engaged.. this happens when I am at or near the top end of 6th Gear.. I dont know if i have just reached my bikes top end or there is a mechanical problem.

Does it do that in every gear at high RPM? Never seen anything like that happen on a Warrior. You may have a broken valve spring, and when you get to a high rpm your valves start hanging. But I would get some more advice, before you tear into the top end.

Sounds like what my Warrior was doing when I was re-jetting it a few weeks ago after a few mods. When the main is too fat it'll start blubbering (similar to what a rev limiter might feel like) right at WOT--which indicates you're too rich on the main--and if it's really rich it'll definitely die until you let up on the throttle. I know you said this only happens in 6th, and that jetting relates to throttle position and not to what gear you're in, but when I was too fat on the main it was more apparent in 6th than any other gear. Don't ask me why, but maybe it has to do with the load on the engine in 6th versus any other gear.
Anyway, try this--pull the carb and see what you have for a main jet...stock is 145. Depending on your elevation and whether or not your ride has had any mods (knowing this might help diagnose your problem), if the main is bigger than the stock size, drop one size and see how it reacts at WOT. If the problem clears up or else less noticeable, then you know it's a jetting problem and can work from there.
