Every machine I have ever owned never needed oil between oil changes but this grizzly needs frequent oil level checks. I have found it low on oil several times. I thought it would get better after break in but no change. It seems to use a quart every 1000 miles. I now have 1800 miles on it. I know a oil check should be part of every pre check before every ride but have never had to add oil between changes on my other yamahas or hondas. I found it 3/4 quart low couldn't get a reading on the stick even with the stick screwed all the way in. It's not leaking just useing it. The tail pipe is a little sooty like a lot of you mention and the plug is clean. Is it just the nature of the beast or is something wrong?

Jerry,

I only have 140 miles on my 660 but I haven't noticed it using any oil. While I'm no mechanic, I wouldn't think that to be good. I would ask my dealer's service tech about this.

Keep me informed on what you find out...
